For so many of us, we are hitting the grind again today. The holidays are over and it's back to emails, new routines (we are hoping will stick until the end of the year) and catching up on everything that came in over those days away. While today may feel a bit overwhelming I am excited to be diving back in, having our routines back in place and some new ones starting up. This year is going to be hectic, however it turns out. I'm looking forward to starting it on the right ...foot, despite it still feeling like 2020. Sometimes it's the little changes that make all the difference. For me, it's actually getting dressed for work AND actually working in my office. I have the habit of working in the dining room and only wearing stretchy pants (who hasn't?). This is not my most productive self, so starting today and every work day moving forward, I am actually getting dress and ready for work, heading to my office and acting like I work out of my house (while being very thankful I don't). The rumour mill sure is working hard this week. With talks of Niagara hitting the dreaded Red Zone tomorrow and the potential of another lockdown by the new year, it has me thinking what 2021 weddings will look like. 2020 sure changed the look of weddings didn't it? From large, planned out indoor weddings to intimate, quick outdoor ones. We saw an increase of backyards, pop-ups and elopements. Those that that got married during COVID, who prioritized their vows over their party, that said "frig off" to 2020 and brought joy into their lives, they reminded me just how much I love my job. But what does it all mean for 2021? Oh who the hell knows! I really don't think much is going to chang...e. Yes a vaccine is coming, but will it roll out enough to really change the current environment for weddings. I doubt it. I really think the intimate weddings are here to stay. They may look different from 2020's weddings, but I think this is the way we are moving through this upcoming year. Yesterday sure was a Monday. Everything started out just great and then a 4.5 hour computer update change the course of my day in a flash (plus added a few swears of frustration). With Niagara entering the Orange Zone and the fear of another full shut down looming, I'm focusing on one thing at at time today. Surprisingly, I'm checking my to do list off, feeling accomplished and not overwhelmed. Little by little, we move forward. There is so much to look forward to. Is anyone else already into the Halloween candy? No? Just me? hmmm ok. Dark and dreary days like today call for some extra sweetness and I'm indulging my sweet tooth. It's the little things because this week has felt like a month long already and it's only Thursday. Starting tomorrow, I will be taking some down time to recharge. December is always a month of reflection over here. This is when I start to think about what worked, what didn't and what I want to change for next year. I start thinking of my goals and where I will be putting my energy for the upcoming year. 2020 has me thinking a lot of what is important and what I want to focus on. Here are few that are already sticking out. This quieter pace is not something that I am willing to let go even if things get "back to normal" in 2021. ... I have AMAZING clients in 2021 and I can't wait to have a year filled with weddings. Oh the tears I will shed and the smiles that will be had. I literally can't wait. What are you finding to be the biggest challenge when it comes to planning your day? Show of hands if it's your seating plan. Trust me you are not alone. Family dynamics can be challenging. Sometimes you can't put people at one table, or on the same side of the room even. There is always that one table of random friends shoved together. There's just no way around it. ... Just because you can have 8 at a table, doesn't mean you have to. And even if you are worried the random friends table isn't having fun (which they are probably having the best time and it's the other tables that may not), they only have to be there for dinner. After that, they are free to roam around. Moral of the story, don't stress that much on it. The day is about the two of you. While 2020 may not have us all feeling as thankful as previous years, this year I am thankful for the time my little family has had together and will like never have like this again.
