Wonderful news!

Little Burdy Doula Services 02.05.2021

Those of us who are Doula’s have really struggled not being able to support our clients the way we’re used to because of COVID-19. It has been heartbreaking not be able to attend hospital births and be a source of comfort and confidence for the parents we’ve become so close to. I am beyond thankful to say that we will finally be able to join you and your partner again in hospital! While I’m grateful for technology and it’s ability to connect us, it can’t compare to being there - holding your hand as we breathe with you through a contraction, looking you in the eye and reminding you how strong you are while you insist you can’t do it anymore, and even grabbing a coffee for your partner who won’t leave your side I love what I do and I love being with you! I can’t wait to be with you wherever you chose to birth!

Breastfeeding can be intimidating, especially if you’re a first time mom! Worrying about milk production, the correct latch, sore nipples, etc. It feels daunting and overwhelming on top of all the other firsts you’re expediting with your newborn. I’ve been there. I get it. In fact, with my first babe I was so anxious about breastfeeding that after a few weeks I stopped. I knew I wanted to give him breast milk though so I ended up pumping for a WHOLE YEAR. I basically felt ...like a cow - pump, feed baby, freeze leftovers, clean machine and bottles, aaaaand repeat. It was more work and harder to do in public, but I did it. (Except at night. I totally supplemented with formula because I was not waking up to pump - no thanks, I was already exhausted!) #nojudgementhere With my second son I was successful with breastfeeding, although I endured not just sore, but cracked and bleeding nipples, multiples episodes of mastitis, and getting over my insecurities about feeding my baby in public. My third baby? A breeze! But only because I’d had to go through these first two challenging experiences. (And I hear girls are better at breastfeeding ) This video is a great teaching tool for all expecting and breastfeeding mommas out there! As a doula I also help you initiate breastfeeding as well as send you support and resources if you need them My main pieces of advice to my clients postpartum are... give it a month before you give up AND take advantage of all the free lactation resources available (like lactation consultants, support groups, breastfeeding cafes, etc.) If you can birth a human being you can do ANYTHING!
