Want a brand new, $9M recreation amenity all to yourself? Get out on the Markin-MacPhail Westside Legacy Trail. While it has had over 35,000 users this summer and fall, they’re spread out over 25 km, between Fairmont Hot Springs and Invermere. Snow, rain, or shine. Pedal-powered, pedal-assisted, or the old fashioned Heel-Toe Express!
Thanks to the 30+ participants that joined us today for the Columbia Valley's 1st Virtual Job Fair, with Fairmont Hot Springs Resort & Panorama Mountain Resort; hosted by Workbc - Invermere.
Weyt-kp xwexweytep (hello everyone) in Secwepemctsin, the traditional language of the Secwepemc or Shuswap people. Have you seen the display in front of Kootenay Lodge? The owners of this historic site have adapted their award-winning scarecrow display into a vignette that shares the Secwepemctsin language. It’s a great stop during your Trick or Treating today.
So... Light up the Park 2 just happened! Led by @ritetoride, the Invermere Skatepark glowed tonight. Good times for everyone! Recreation facilities - like skateparks - and programming are more important than ever in order to keep residents safe, active and connected. The skatepark is located at Mount Nelson Athletic Park, adjacent to College of the Rockies - Invermere Campus, David Thompson Secondary School and JA Laird Elementary School. ... And amenity migrants who choose the Columbia Valley as their work from anywhere community are in for a treat! #columbiavalleybc
Family life just took a big step forward last week, with the pouring of the footings of the new Village of Canal Flats childcare facility. First announced in the summer, the 40-child licensed child care centre is located at the corner of Burns & Grainger. Once completed, this valuable amenity will help attract and retain families to the community; supporting both the local workforce and businesses.
Lakeside luxury homes and amenities are popping up in Canal Flats. Madison Builders Inc. is currently raising an amenity building for Painted Ridge BC, along with a home, just above it, made with framing and panels by Dusk Building Systems. Columbia Valley builders, trades and suppliers are working together to produce some quality homes, and consistent with the spectacular surroundings.
Basketball anyone? The Columbia Lake Recreation Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 1-7pm, for basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, badminton, pickle ball, running track, weight room, and a multitude of other sports and activities within the new 22,000 square foot facility. Call Brian at 250-342-6111 or email [email protected] to book your group’s time slots.
This winter is different. And so is the holiday shopping season. Global supply chains have been disrupted. And more people are seeking outdoor recreation equipment. Demand is outpacing supply. Don't wait until the last minute and be disappointed. Shop local. And shop early.... Stay tuned for news about how local retailers are making it easier than ever to do so! See more
Thankful for this feature from Cando. And very proud to be involved with this great working group between Shuswap Indian Band & District of Invermere, as they form a collaborative path forward.

Meet Daniela. She is the artist behind the Shuswap Indian Band & District of Invermere’s recently signed Friendship Agreement. Both Daniela, and her partner J.C., moved to the Columbia Valley after the pandemic began, choosing our high quality of life over many other communities in western Canada. And they are just two examples of newcomers who have had a positive impact on the community by volunteering. You can read more about Daniela’s story in the October 22nd edition of the Columbia Valley Pioneer.
Geese, ducks and swans have taken advantage of the cool, calm weather to gather, form a flying V, and begin their migration over Lake Windermere. This year we’re expecting some Snowbirds to winter in the Columbia Valley. Those retirees, and other newcomers, are landing throughout the community now. Some are relaxing, while others are here to work and play hard. How is your business or organization going to welcome them? ... #columbiavalleybc #snowbirds
How are going to stay active this fall? The Riverside course at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort held on as long as they could this fall. But the best intentions to golf were stopped by low temperatures & a dusting of snow. Now, it’s time to think about waxing up the skis & boards! #columbiavalleybc
