Loonies For Loggers 09.10.2020

A few weeks ago we were contacted to inform us that we had been nominated for the Comox Valley Record local Hero Awards. Due to covid they had to make some adjustments & held a smaller more intimate ceremony this evening. We are absolutely in awe & humbled to have been nominated for such a prestigious award. Although we did not take home the award we were finalists for the Hero of the Year award. For that, we want to extend a huge thank you to each & every person that helped ...us & supported us on this journey. If not for each of you, Loonies for Loggers would not have grown to be what it is. So we thank each & every one of you from the bottom of our hearts! We would also like to extend a big congratulations to the winner who was very deserving of the award. Details will be in next Wednesday’s Comox Valley Record so be sure to pick up a copy to read about the extensive accomplishments of the winner. Truly outstanding! Sending covid free hugs to each & every one of you!! Oh my gosh, have we mentioned how much we miss the hugs??!!

Hi everyone! Just letting you know we’re still here! Wow! We just had our 1 year anniversary last night with our page!! It all started with a phone conversation trying to figure out what we could do for the loggers & that night Loonies for Loggers was created! And what a year it’s been!!! The communities, businesses & the people here on the island & across Canada who supported us & the loggers during a very long & difficult labour dispute was absolutely amazing!!!! We were a...ble to provide groceries, medical expenses, Hydro & then some to the loggers & their families. We met & reconnected with so many people in our travels! Then Covid hit & stopped us in our tracks. We were still able to help those in need but with some major Covid adjustments. We miss the connection with everyone & the hugs! Omg! The hugs! We are missing those hugs!!!!! We know eventually life will return to normal & we’ll be able to get back out there with fundraising for Loonies for Loggers 2.0. With that said, we have been asked for some more of our ever popular Support your Logger t-shirts & hoodies. If anyone else would like one please contact us as we will be putting in an order. We can do contactless payment with etransfers to [email protected] & arrange for pick up or shipping of the item. Price & pics are as follows: T-shirt black $40 size sm-3xl Long sleeved T-shirt green $50 size sm-2xl Hoodie grey $60 size sm-2xl We hope everyone is doing well & staying healthy. It’s been sometime since We have posted anything here. We wish that today’s post was a happy meme or something of that Nature. However we are posting some extremely sad news and reaching out to our forestry family in hopes of support the way you all have always done. It has been brought to our attention the recent and sudden passing of Rob Shanahan from Chemanius. He leaves behind his wife Tiffany, their 5 children ages 4-12 years and his brother Dave ( Dave and Tiffany bot...h work at chemanius Mill) A gofundme me has been started by a good friend of Tiffany’s. We do understand That some people are not comfortable donating through go fund me but would still like to show their support. Loonies for loggers will collect donations that can be sent to [email protected] please just specify Shanahan Family Let’s show them they are not alone in this and that they have their forestry family behind them supporting them in this time. https://gf.me/u/yfpq79

Today let us take a moment to remember the lives lost. Today marks the third anniversary of the rail accident in Woss. We know this day hurts hard for many I hope you can find some comfort as Rona and I would often say as we travelled about the island how the loggers passed were watching over us. We couldn’t explain it but we could sure feel their presence with us keeping us safe and guiding us to where we needed to be. I hope today as you remember when you close your eyes you feel them as well. May they always watch over each and everyone of you keeping you safe not just at work but when you are home as well.

Crazy how quickly life can change for an entire globe isn’t it. Somedays I feel like I have my own wild ride that Disney couldn’t hold a candle to. We know most are back to work and for that we are greatful. There is Nothing better then getting out and breathing in that fresh air, the smell of chainsaw oil and fresh cut wood/lumber to fill a soul. There is something about wood that generates respect for the land which gives to us and for the jobs it creates. We would just like to take this time to let everyone know we are still here. Although capacity has changed courtesy of COVID-19 and donations have slowed dramatically, we still are able to help in small ways. Sometimes you just need someone to chat to and vent to. We are here for that as well. Sending hugs love and much respect to each and everyone of you.
