A very happy 85th birthday to HRH the Duke of Kent from us all in the British Army. Here’s a special socially distanced tribute from the Band of the Royal Regim...ent of Fusiliers for the Duke who among his many military appointments is Colonel, of the Scots Guards, Colonel-in-Chief, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, Colonel, 1st Battalion, of The Rifles and Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. He had twenty years of regular service in the British Army after commissioning at Sandhurst as an officer in the Royal Scots Greys and served in Hong Kong, later serving on the staff in Eastern Command. In 1970, the Duke commanded a squadron of his regiment serving in the British Sovereign Base Area in Cyprus, part of the UN force enforcing peace between the Greek and Turkish parts of the divided island. During the early 1970s, the Duke also served in Northern Ireland with his Regiment. The Duke retired from the Army on 15 April 1976. The Duke is president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, president of The Scout Association, the Royal United Services Institute, and the Royal Institution of Great Britain, and since 1967 he has been Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England. He is also patron of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. See more

It with regret and sadness that we inform you of the passing of another of our serving members. Cpl Michael William Furdas passed away suddenly at his home in M...ississauga on Wednesday, 23 September. Cpl Furdas served for four years with the Regiment and deployed on Op LASER as part of the Local Response Unit. He was a machine gunner within and had many close friends - former high school classmates - within the ranks. He always volunteered for extra taskings within and outside the unit. He was just 21 and his time with us was too short. Funeral arrangements are not yet known to us, but we will provide this information as soon as we learn the wishes of his family. As well, we will conduct a memorial service for Cpl Furdas in Etobicoke; details of this event will also follow once we have conferred with Cpl Furdas’s family. The past seven months have been challenging for everyone, and news like this can make such difficult times feel darker. Below is a link to mental health services offered by the Canadian Armed Forces. https://www.canada.ca//benefit/military-mental-health.html The Regiment mourns the loss of another soldier. Despite COVID restrictions, we will honour Cpl Furdas’s life and his service to The Regiment. Though we grieve, we draw strength from each other, and to honour Cpl Furdas’s memory, we will Carry On!
