It’s not what you think it is! We swear!! Today we took some time to do a little bit of maintenance on the bee hives. While doing that we were able to pull two full frames of honey, as well as harvest some propolis and add another honey super. Propolis, pictured in the second photo, is sometimes referred to as bee glue and has many uses, from medicinal to beauty products. ... We’re adding the honey super now in late summer to catch the last big honey flow from any fall flowering plants. Ideally, these honey supers (the top box on each hive) will fill only with honey since the queen can not get into this part of the hive to lay eggs. This should mean that by October we should have around 100 pounds of honey to harvest from the top box of one hive alone!
