I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of the Marathon Fire Department for giving me the best crew to work with. The Marathon firefighters and officers don’t do it for the fame or glory. They are passionate about helping their neighbours and giving back to their community. If you know a Marathon firefighter, please take the time to say thank you for your service. Without them, we wouldn’t have a department. Thank you all.... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Santa is making an extra trip to Marathon to see his friends! He will be driving around town with the help of our Fire Department. Dec 23rd starting at 4:45 pm Remember to practice physical distancing and watch for Santa in your window/front yard only with the people you live with.
Remember to change the battery in you Smoke and Co detectors tomorrow night when changing your clocks back!!!
Clocks will fall back one hour at 2am on November 1 and the Marathon Fire & Emergency Services is recommending residents install new batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks. In order for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to do their job, they need to have working batteries, explained Earl Grigg. Once a year, old batteries should be replaced with new batteries. When you change your clocks on November 1, Marathon Fire & Emergency Ser...vices wants everyone to take the time to install new batteries in all alarms. In order to survive a fire, you need to be provided with an early warning and know what to do when the smoke alarms sound. Working smoke alarms are required on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas. For added protection, it is recommended to also install smoke alarms inside all bedrooms. Carbon monoxide alarms must be installed outside all sleeping areas if your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage. Tampering with or removing the batteries from your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms is against the law. Failure to comply with the Fire Code can result in a ticket for $360 or a fine of up to $50,000. For more information contact: Earl Grigg Fire Chief 807-229-1340 ext 2239
