Markdale Minor Soccer 05.07.2021

If we find ourselves in the Orange Zone, all house-leagues will pause but distanced in-person training will continue. There will be no soccer at the U4, U6, U8 and U10 programs.

If we fall under the Yellow Zone, the U6 and U4 age divisions will not run. Goalkeeper training will not run. All other age divisions and programs will be similar to the Green Zone.

Should we open in the Green zone, the attached screen grab from our Return to Play plan outlines some of the relevant points. The U8, U10 and U12 age groups will run training and house-leagues. U15 and above will run training and play within a 6 v 6 house-league. There will be no goalkeepers at all this year although one-on-one goalkeeper training will be permitted under the green zone.

As we move through the month of May, we are posting up what soccer might look like under the various public health colour codes that our region might find itself in. No matter the code, soccer will be a little different this year with safety measures and travel restrictions in place. All age groups will begin with in-house training when we get the go ahead to do so. For our U12 and above players, the Lakeshore League remains on hold and may not run at all this year. The leag...ue is working on possible mini-divisions of two or three clubs playing within a travel bubble. This will all depend on the progress of the pandemic and instructions from Public Health. In the meantime, U12 and above players will play within a 5v5 or 6v6 club house-league. For our U10 and below players, all soccer this year will be in-house with no travel. No soccer will be offered in either the Grey or Red zones. We will offer soccer in Orange, Yellow and Green. More updates to follow. See more

Update April 17: As the provincial Covid stay-at-home order has been extended to May 20, Markdale Minor Soccer remains on pause but hopeful that we will be given the go ahead to play some soccer this summer. We have held back our registration for the time being but are keeping the names of everyone who responded to our pre-registration callout. Space in some of our programs will be very limited (particularly at the younger age groups), so if you would like to play, please get... back to us as soon as possible with your player’s name and birth year. At this point, the season is still very much salvageable as most of our programs don’t normally begin until the middle of May but the ultimate decision whether we can go ahead will be dependent on the health unit giving us the okay to play. We remain hopeful that we can get some soccer in this summer. Here’s hoping for a better June! See more

Pre-Registration Survey: As we work on our return to play documentation for soccer this summer, we recognize the season is going to be a little different in some ways. We are currently in the Green Zone which is great news for a return to soccer but it still involves some modifications to our regular programs and a possible limit to our schedule for our Under-8 and above travelling league players. We recognize that some of you may not be ready to return to soccer quite yet ...while others may have concerns about the impact of the pandemic on what shape our season might end up taking. Because there is still so much uncertainty, we are not holding our regular registration quite yet, but do want to gauge your interest in soccer this summer. This pre-registration survey will allow us to have a better sense of what sort of season we can have. If you are hoping to play soccer this year in Markdale, please message us with your player’s name and birth year. No other info or payment is required at this point. See more

After much consultation with all the relevant stakeholders, we have unfortunately reached the conclusion that a soccer season in Markdale will not be possible this summer. Although the province is slowly beginning to open up organized sport activities, the regulations for soccer clubs are quite strict and will make it difficult for us to bring the kind of soccer that everyone in Markdale knows and loves to play. Our soccer complex will remain closed for the remainder of the summer. We will be issuing full refunds over the next week to everyone who registered. Stay safe and see you next year!

The province has announced a limited return to soccer over the coming weeks. We are awaiting instructions from Ontario Soccer about what that return will look like. At the present time, we do know that gatherings will be limited to practices of no more than 10 people including coaches, that no games or scrimmages will be allowed at all, and that clubs will have to meet stringent safety protocols in order to receive clearance to return to play. For our U12 and above players, t...here will be no Lakeshore League games. There will also be no house league or travel league games for our U8 and U10 players. Any return to soccer will be very limited. There remains much uncertainty whether we can have even this limited season in Markdale. We still have to overcome a number of obstacles before we can consider returning to play. It's been a long wait. Thank your for your patience. We will post new info as we get it. See more
