Our next Performance Arts showcase is Traditional Irish Dance performed by the wonderful group at the Aroon Academy of Irish Dance. May 21, 2021 at 10 am on MA...C YouTube Channel. Irish Dance is for all who enjoy this beautiful, traditional art form. Aroon Academy has been training Irish dancers, big and small, since 2013. Our classes have continued regularly throughout this pandemic, whether in person or online. Our engaging classes are all taught by Eileen Westernacher, former member of the world-renowned dance show, Riverdance. Meet Tamarie Warner! Author of the new book, "Island Girl: A Collection of Poetry", is passionate about supporting women and embracing diversity in every aspect... of life. On the occasion of Mother's Day, Tamarie will be presenting a spoken word performance this Friday at 10am on MAC YouTube, paying tribute to four generations of women in her family. Our next artist for Artist Unplugged - Carina Bianchini - May 6, 2021, 12.30 pm on our YouTube Channel. Carina Bianchini is a singer, dancer, actress, and model... from Markham, Ontario. She has been a competitive dancer at K&k Dance Dreamz since the age of 4. She has won numerous awards at dance competitions including Triple Threat Recognition awards and scholarships. She graduated with honors from Unionville High School in the arts program and had the role of the chaperone in the school’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Carina is an original member of the all-girl pop-rock group GirlPow-R. She wrote lyrics, created harmonies, and developed music video choreography for their debut album This Is Us. The album went on to be nominated for a Juno in the Children’s Album Of The Year category. Carina recently released her first solo single called Just Groove it is an R&b funk-style song about dancing and letting go of your worries. Her upcoming original songs will consist of Pop, R&b, and ballads. Carina also owns a Tiedye Instagram shop called @todye4shop where she has items of all kinds available and will also do custom orders. Enjoy the Virtual Spring Art Show at ACHC 2021 with the showcased artwork from members of the Markham Group of Artists Despite the pandemic restrictions, the Ma...rkham Group of Artists have been active this past year renewing its connections to the community and refreshing its online presence. The group has had several shows happening this yearboth juried and non-juried that will celebrate 40 years of inspiring artists in Markham and surrounding areas. We have invited all members, from beginners to professionals to show their work through the Markham Art Council’s 2021 Arts and Cultural Heritage Celebrations. Take a sneak peek at what we are creating and sharing. About Markham Group of Artists: The Markham Group of Artists (MGA) is a vibrant community of artists that has been inspiring creatives in the Markham area since 1981. Founded by Pat Wheeler and incorporated on April 16, 2012, MGA includes artists from beginners to professionals, who work in a variety of media and styles. MGA welcomes all visual artists, and currently has a membership consisting of 70 artists, the majority of whom reside in the City of Markham. MGA offers an array of workshops and lectures by distinguished artists and stages a variety of juried and non-juried shows in the community on an annual basis. MGA also holds annual juried shows: at the McKay Art Centre of Unionville and the Windows Open show in September. In spring, summer, and fall, MGA artists are out and about painting community scenes en plein air. MGA collaborates with the City of Markham community, such as participating in public art projects such as painting mosaics and, on occasion, collaborating with the Varley Art Gallery. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation and served as its former Executive Director for seventeen years. Bernice is the daughter of Herb Carnegie, Black hockey trailblazer, and creator of the Future ACES Philosophy a character development tool widely used in hundreds of Ontario schools. She worked with her father for thirty years to help share their vision of encouraging behaviours that foster respect, caring and peaceful interaction. Currently, Bernice is an Educational and Life Enrichment Speaker who reveals vignettes of her family’s story of being Black in Canada since settling in the Toronto area in 1912. Like her father, she has received many educational and leadership awards including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and was an honouree at the inaugural 2016 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women Event. The Carnegie autobiography, A Fly in a Pail of Milk, The Herb Carnegie Story has been re-released with Part II written by Bernice Lessons passed on from father to daughter.
