100 year anniversary of lead added to gasoline. Allowing it was one of the worst public health decisions in human history. 19 year anniversary of a key study in the New England Journal relating body burdens of lead, from low level exposure and accumulation over time, to chronic kidney disease. And chelation therapy preventing dialysis. And ... largely ignored.

Posted @drpamelasmithnd I am very passionate about environmental medicine especially when it comes to children. I wish I could share every slide from today! Thank you to Dr Gannage for presenting this important info to gain more conventional awareness. A big part of what I do is focus on preconception care and ideally having a conversation with women BEFORE they get pregnant to help reduce their future child’s risks for chronic issues. With all of the negative research in mi...nd, there are positive ways to protect yourself and your family. The accumulated affect is what we need to worry about. Reduce your exposure by: eat organic whenever possible, avoid aluminum in deodorants (especially during pregnancy), avoid plastics whenever possible (do not store, microwave, or freeze foods in plastic), avoid heavily processed foods, do not use pesticides around your home, dust floors and surfaces often to reduce exposure to lead dust in home, support detoxification systems See more

"New research led by a University of Georgia faculty member in collaboration with a University of Southern California research group .... daily consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages during adolescence impairs performance on a learning and memory task during adulthood. The group further showed that changes in the bacteria in the gut may be the key to the sugar-induced memory impairment." https://bit.ly/3dCC2rF #sugar #memory #learning #microbiome

"Scientists from the University’s Nutritional Epidemiology Group used data from 500,000 people, discovering that consuming a 25g serving of processed meat a day, the equivalent to one rasher of bacon, is associated with a 44% increased risk of developing the disease. But their findings also show eating some unprocessed red meat, such as beef, pork or veal, could be protective, as people who consumed 50g a day were 19% less likely to develop dementia. "

As described in Part 1 of this series on ADHD, we are on the lookout for safe and effective treatments for long-term symptom management. Due to the variable expression of the condition, there isn’t simply a ‘one-size-fits-all’ treatment. Although exercise is an advantageous approach to improving cognition and behaviour in people with ADHD, those dealing with persistent and sometimes debilitating symptoms require a more targeted approach. Many people are also turning to alternative treatments such as supplemental nutrients and herbal remedies for potential management purposes.

Research has explored the idea of exercise as a recommended intervention for ADHD. Exercise has a profound effect on our brain health by improving our learning, memory, and overall cognition. More details and specifics follow:

In Part 1 of this 2 part series, "The 3 W’s of POTS", we dug deeper into the condition itself, why it occurs, who it affects, and the pathway to an accurate diagnosis. In part 2, we’ll be shifting our focus towards some of the best research-based therapy options for POTS and how to go about implementing them into your daily routine.

It’s been hypothesized that modulation of our microbiome environment through daily probiotic supplementation may help to boost mood and cognitive functioning. Our neural and endocrine pathways that encourage neurotransmitter release in the brain, such as with GABA or serotonin, are accentuated by certain probiotic species.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, otherwise known as POTS, is an autonomic disturbance of the nervous system. The syndrome itself is quite complex and not fully understood today by researchers. There is a spectrum of symptoms and severity such that the syndrome affects individuals differently. Some people lose their ability to accomplish their daily chores, go to the gym, and even spend quality time with their friends and family while others can’t even get out of bed in the morning. In order to better untangle the ins and outs of POTS, let’s take a look at the 3 W’s.
