Hello book lovers, potters and anyone that has read my book, My Life As a Potter. As you likely know all the royalties from my book go to the Legacy Project and so the more books that sell, the more coin I raise for the project. It would be an enormous help if you would consider writing a short review or rating my book on Amazon or other book sites. Any help with getting the word out to potters worldwide is greatly appreciated. Your...fox that pots www.maryfoxpottery.ca

The girls would like to say Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there...and a special thank you to all the attention that the moms visiting the gallery give to them. Amy in particular never stops looking for an extra pat.

I woke up to a great email this morning from fellow potter/author @lindathepotter saying that my book had been reviewed in the magazine @claycrafting out of the UK. I’m so pleased, this is the first review of my book in a Ceramic magazine, what a treat it was to read super happy fox that pots....

Writing a book really makes you take a good long look at yourself and your creative life’s journey. This piece is one of my first Altered Vessels and was created in 1988 during my 6 week stay at the Banff Centre. I wasn’t to know then that this form would become one that I revisit frequently and that it would become one of my most popular series. The other day I came across a note that I had copied from somewhere, sadly I neglected to make a note of who the author was. As I r...ead it last night I felt so appreciative that someone had taken the time to write it and that their words were and are so very touching to me. So today I am sharing it with you and hope to one day find out who wrote it There's something hauntingly beautiful about the work of Mary Fox Pottery. Seemingly impossible lines carve out fantastical silhouettes that taunt gravity. Yet in tandem with this, there is something grounding in these forms and vessels that draw inspiration from Fox's natural surroundings. In her COVID exploration Mary Fox writes: "Creating while this is going on is challenging at times but that is who I am, a creator." Living in these unusual times can feel overwhelming and ugly, but this short video reminds us that beauty is everywhere. https://vimeo.com/134918996

My Dad has left us for, parts unknown When I was waiting for my book to be published I kept hoping that Dad would still be with us so I could put it in his hands. I got my wish, Dad could no longer make sense of much but he knew it was the ‘long awaited book’ Here he is looking at what I wrote to him in the book as my sister Angelika gently reads it out to him I am broken hearted but full up to the brim with wonderful memories and that makes me one lucky daughter.

Have someone to spoil? This latest batch of granite ware is a bit warmer in colour than my last batch likely because of the clay body. It has an ‘oatmeal’ colour to me and is quite lovely. www.maryfoxpottery.ca

I was working on the display in my gallery yesterday, trying to find places to put all the new tableware. At some point I put these small bowls by the glass chalice intending to put them somewhere else but then when I turned back to take another look at them I realized how beautifully they complemented the pieces they were placed by...so they stayed and I grabbed a picture to share with you all. The gallery is well and truly stocked up now, all ready for when people come in to pick up a copy of my book...in about two weeks time. To preorder go to the link on my website www.maryfoxpottery.ca

As we move into Fall I thought Id share with you this glimpse of how I live my life here at the pottery. Increasing I realize how fortunate I am to be able to live the life of a studio potter, shaping my life as I move through it. This fall and winter will see more people spending time indoors but without the usual happy sounds of people dropping in for visits or coming to a dinner party. Its a challenging time for all but I hope that my book will help to inspire you to live a creative life despite the hardships we see all around us. Creatively yours, fox that pots book preorders happening now www.maryfoxpottery.ca

Were heading into September already, its been a different summer but Ive enjoyed it very much. I missed my international visitors but had lots of people from BC come in that were having a great time exploring our bit of paradise. Late Saturday I had a collector call to see if she could come in after hours, fun watching her pour over all the new tableware deciding what to take home with her. Then last night she sent me this photo showing her previous acquisitions...I feel like my jug is standing there feeling very proud...you sure cant miss her! Thanks for the photos everyone, love seeing my work in your homes. Fox that pots...www.maryfoxpottery.ca @ Ladysmith, British Columbia

I see we missed international dog day... this is one of my all time favourite photos of the girls. Their excitement so evident as they run into the gallery to start their work day as official greeters. Every time someone comes in they come find me and then lead me into the gallery. They then go to their pillow to receive the reward, a dried anchovy.

I have quite a few pieces I made during the lockdown that I put aside to glaze with my lithium compound. Its the trickiest of my finishes but well worth the effort as I can get so many different results. Heres a chalice I did quite a few years back, it always makes me think of wood. I cover this technique in my book which will be available at the beginning of October. To get an update on the release date, sign up for my newsletter on my website. www.maryfoxpottery.ca
