Every Acupuncturist in North America is trained in the foundational study of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was standardized in the People's Republic of China in the 1950s. At that time, the Chinese government promoted a systematized form of Chinese Medicine based on thousands of years of Chinese medical practice. From there the practice expanded into North America and is now regulated in most provinces in Canada. That being said, the history behind this medicine is not ...a straight line and there are so many more theories and methodologies other than this single style of Acupuncture for Acupuncturists to study, research and specialize in. Some other styles Include Classical Chinese Medicine, Japanese style, Korean and Five Element, to name a few. If two Acupuncturists treat a patient for the same disorder, are they likely to get the same result? They very likely will. Will they achieve these results with the exact same protocols, treatment plan and points? Likely not! Each therapist will work towards the same goal: to stop pain, reduce symptoms, expel disease and relax the nervous system. Their approach, however, will be vastly different. Some Acupuncturists have a focus on motor points, some use traditional points and some specialize in microsystems, etc. The Point: Due to the flexibility in the study and application of Acupuncture, no two practitioners will be the same. Therefore, I encourage you: try a few different practitioners and find the one that suits you the best! They will all be able to help, in their own way, with any injury or illness you put on the table.
With Acupuncture we ensure the smooth flow of Qi and Blood in the body. This ensures the body is clear of disease-causing stagnation and is essential to preventing pain and illness.
"It is no accident that the modern Chinese term for psychosomatic medicine is xingshen bingxue, literally the science of how (primary) physical ... form and (secondary) spirit relate in the disease forming process." - H. Fruehauf 2006 See more
