In life, like butterflies, we go through transitions. In the egg stage we are recently born, new to life and what it has in store for us. We are explorers and fearless. That leaf, which is our world, is vast. In the Caterpillar stage we are now aware of life, the good and the bad and we are at a crossroads, unsure of the next step or even our abilities. We are caught in a Chrysalis cycle, this cycle could be of contentment because we have figured out our place in the world, ...but dont realize there is more to be had. However, some may feel trapped here because of life's experiences so far and need to break free, but dont know how to turn to negative means to escape. The butterfly stage is where we have reached fulfillment in life, we have been able to explore life, face the crossroads and break free of the mediocrity and negative shell life placed on us. Give life your undivided attention. Whether it be enjoying a walk by the seaside, practising some forest bathing or completing a hike with your furry friend, really be there. Soak up the sights, sounds and smells of everything around you. Remind yourself of life’s little miracles.
This breathing technique stems from the ancient practice of pranayama yoga. Equal breathing means simply, that you are inhaling for the same amount of time as you are exhaling. You can practice equal breathing from a sitting or lying-down position, just be sure to be comfortable. Challenge yourself to set aside a few minutes to practice equal breathing every morning this week. Observe if this changes your day.
Meet our founder, Tricia-Kay Williams. Tricia holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from York University in Toronto, ON and a graduate degree in Counselling Psychology at Adler University in Vancouver, BC. Tricia is skilled in treating: trauma, anxiety, transitional/career and relational issues. She is an active community and social services professional who has previously worked at the Salvation Army, the Pacific Community Resource Society and the Westcoast Family Centre as an FLA Co-parenting family counsellor, alongside spending some years as a Residential Youth Worker.
