Mike Loughman Speaker/Fundraiser

It’s amazing how one can change. I was probably one of the worst citizens at one point but because of my complete turn around I was voted Best Citizen in 2017. It’s never to late people.

Here is a bio and a short story of my life. Mike Loughman 40yrs old Bipolar, A.D.H.D., borderline personality disorder, obsessive disorder, depression, anxiety, paranoia, social anxiety/phobia, reading and writing disorder, mathematics disorder, trichotillomania, alcoholic/addict for over 20yrs, lived on streets, high school dropout/expelled, survivor of extreme targeting in school by bullies, survivor of molestation, survivor of suicide attempts and overdoses. ... Mike was severely bullied and beat up in high school. At the age of 13 Mike was molested for several months by 2 grade 12 students. Mike had trouble in school with learning and his emotions. Mike was diagnosed with ADHD but the medication affected him negatively so Mike was taken off of it after awhile and no new treatment was given. Mike knew something was wrong but no one listened. Mike at the age of 12 was molested by 2 18yr old boys for several months. Mike was kicked out of school and ran away from home several times. Mike ended up on the streets. Mike was an alcoholic and addict for over 20 yrs. Mike had trouble with relationships, jobs, and life in general. Mike survived a few suicide attempts and overdoses. Around 2012 Mike was diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder, borderline personality disorder, obsessive disorder, depression, anxiety, paranoia, social anxiety/phobia, reading and writing disorder, mathematics disorder, and trichotillomania. Mike went to therapy/psychiatrist/meetings/support groups after his stay in a recovery centre. Mike got help from ALBERTA WORKS/AIRDRIE ADDICTIONS AND MENTAL HEALTH CENTRE. Since Mike's diagnosis he has sobered up, got his high school equivalency, Cpr training, SMART RECOVERY FACILITATOR LICENSE, and dedicates most of his time helping others by being a mental health/addictions/anti-bullying/abuse advocate. Mike started two businesses called SURRENDER 2 SOBRIETY & OPEN MIKE SPEAKER. Mike helps mentor and guide others to a path of sobriety. Mike discovered a passion for poetry/rap/spoken word and now takes part in open mics in and around calgary weekly. Mike discovered a passion for volunteering and fundraising. Mike's work focuses on mental health/addictions/anti-bullying/abuse/pollution/morals. Mike has many goals and plans for the future.
