Happy New Year from MDS! 2020 has been a year filled with ups and downs, but we are very grateful to everyone who helped us to share smiles, hugs and joy. This includes but is not limited to our smile angels, sponsors, volunteers, supporters and everyone else involved in our organization!... You have all helped us make a difference and we look forward to seeing you all in 2021.

He received his teddy bear when we were living in a basement, now we live here in an apartment and it's still here! The photo is from when he visited his aunt in the US. He continues to go everywhere with his teddy everywhere with it, as it gives him comfort and support. Thanks for sending us this wonderful memory! It’s time to shine another spotlight on our next MDS volunteer. This week’s Volunteer Spotlight post goes out to Susan Sausedo. Susan has been a devoted supporter of Million Dollar Smiles for 14 years. Over the years, she has dedicated her time and energy whenever she can and whenever possible and has loved every second of it. If Susan had to narrow it down, her favourite part of being a part of MDS is having the sense of accomplishment. Delivering a bear, building a play...ground, or simply working behind the scenes is truly a reward. But overall the passion, the giving, the caring and most of all the children are what drives Susan to continue supporting MDS for years to come. A huge virtual bear hug and a giant thank you goes out to Alectra for their generous donations which made MDS’ 2020 gift card mail out program a fantastic success! In place of our annual Holiday bear drive that we come together for ever year, we were able to bring smiles to the faces of children and families with gift cards made possible by Alectra. It truly means the world be able to reach people during such a trying time, and while we very much miss the tradition of gett...ing together with all of our supporters and smile angels to create gift baskets and deliver bears, the generosity we are experiencing this year in spite of the road blocks is so wonderful. It’s time to shine another spotlight on our next MDS volunteer. This special post goes out to David Paluzzi. MDS is grateful for his outstanding support and generous heart throughout the years. David has been a supportive volunteer for many years. Since he first started he has had the opportunity to use his platform at Future Shop and Sail, to give back to the community over the years. Between both partnerships and MDS they have built 21 playgrounds and have delivered 500 ...bears. That’s incredible! His continuous efforts to give back has made such a major impact. Even though he’s an active MDS volunteer helping children in need, MDS has also benefited him as a person internally. Between believing no child should be able to play outside and do what kids should do, while losing my father to cancer was the perfect match for me. David was exposed to the charity at his lowest which has given him more purpose to give back. But at the end of the day nothing brings him more joy than experiencing building playgrounds and delivering teddy bears with his daughters. Thank you David! We are getting ready to spread awareness on World Diabetes Day - November 14 2020. This year’s theme is The Nurses and diabetes, the goal is to raise awareness around how nurses play an important role in supporting people with diabetes. Diabetes is now becoming more common in children, with that in mind they need to visit health care providers more frequently. It is important to raise awareness around this so they are able to continue to help children manage the impact of th...eir conditions.
