Are you just too busy in the morning to even focus on eating breakfast? Do you get swamped at work and can't find the time to warm up your lunch? Or are the you tired parent who comes home after a long day of work and cooking is the last thing you want to do? Fast food is usually the go to for busy days. Unfortunately the downfall of consuming so much of it is that fast food is considerably high is unhealthy fats, cholesterol, sugar, carbohydrates, and sodium. All of whi...ch contribute to chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, digestive issues, depression and more. I always challenge clients to keep their "chest meal" to once a week, otherwise avoid any fast food all together. Pack your lunch with snacks the night before, that way there is no need to make a stop. Take a look at the fast food meals compared to making simple meals yourself. The calories, fats, sugars and carbohydrates are all in your control when you make your own. You will have healthier, better quality meals that will only give you the fuel and nutrients you need to make it through your day.

Addicted to Sugar? Many people say that they feel drawn to eat fatty, sweet foods , similar in some ways to how an alcoholic might feel compelled to drink. The big question is why do people crave food? The answer lies in the brain, literally! Why do we need to cut sugar out of our diet? ... Sugar in the body can cause: Diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, chronic inflammation, cavities, fatty liver disease, and increases bad cholesterol, etc. Do you enjoy that burst of energy but then experience that lovely sugar crash that leaves you feeling lethargic mid day? No one does!! Spikes in blood glucose levels can effect your day to day mood, and physiology. Sugar is also the nemesis of anyone who is trying to lose weight. Along with the bringer of anxiety and depression, which in turn can cause binge eating. Do you want clear skin? Cut out the sugar for that too!! Studies have shown that fatty, sugary foods release chemicals called opioids into the bloodstream. Opioids bind to receptors in the reward center of the brain which in turn give you feelings of pleasure. Binging, withdrawal and craving behaviors with food are said to be related to neurochemical changes in the brain that also occur during addiction to drugs. Researchers indicate that sugar, and the taste of sweet, can stimulate the brain by activating beta endorphin receptor sites, the very same chemicals activated by the use of morphine and heroin. In addition to opioids, the neurotransmitters dopamine is also stimulated by sugar. Most people find that physical cravings for sugar will end within three to four weeks after complete sugar withdrawal. To break food cravings, it is crucial to avoid the known addictive foods. For many, the initial few days or even weeks will be very physically uncomfortable and symptoms of detox may be experienced. These symptoms can include headaches, mood swings, fatigue and sweats. Do you need help overcoming your sugar cravings? I can help! Message me today.

Well it has been quite the year hasn't it. One that will definitely go down in the record book that is for sure! Even though it has been very tough on us all, I want to encourage you to take a moment a think about some positive things that have happened this year. I will start...... 1. I managed to start my nutrition business in the mist of a pandemic and I am able to work with some amazing people. Not a ideal way to start up a business but I took the leap anyways. 2. My daughter graduated grade 8 and started her high school journey. Even though it's not what she thought, she is pushing through and over coming obstacles I never had to deal with as a teenager. Kids need more credit for dealing with all this too. 3. I started putting my self, feelings, and concerns first. I can't help those who need it when I am not practicing self care myself. 4. My family has become even closer, we are talking more and checking in with each other. We even started doing alot more family game nights. I realized I won't be here forever and I don't want to miss making momories with loved ones. 5. And finally, I learnt that I am strong and resilient AF! I am in my almost mid 30s, I completed 4 years of schooling while taking care of my family, working full time, keeping ontop of the house, bringing kids to extra curricular, and dealing with life in general. I realized I need to give myself alot more credit. Thats a few things I can think of at the top of my head. I'm sure there are a tonne more. We just have to get passed all the negitivity, and really try to focus on the amazing positive things that happen in our lives. I encourage you to scroll down and find my Fresh START2021 goal setting sheet. We know how tough 2020 was, make the decision to make 2021 so much better! Let it be the year you put your health and wellbeing first. Heaven knows you deserve it. There should be no value on your health. We have one body, one mind. Happy New year!

You have to admit, 2020 has been extremely challenging for all of us in one way or another. Some have lost jobs, are struggling financially, loss a loved one, and all of us had to change and adapt to a different way of living. Keeping a positive attitude and hope is very important right now, even with how stressful and frustrating things have been. It is exciting and a breath of fresh air to think ahead on the many possibilities 2021 may share to make up for this challengin...g year. As we end this crazy year, I want to challenge you to set some new goals. But not like you have done in the past making new years resolutions. Instead I want you to try FRESH START21 goal setting! You choose and write down 21 goals you want to accomplish for 2021!! Make sure you write them down as it subconsciously makes them real and concrete. Share your goals with loved ones, post them on the fridge or around the house. The more real you make it, the more likely you are going to work on them. Setting Goals the Right Way Start by setting a highly specific goal. For example, instead of saying I want to make more money this year, pick a specific amount. The subconscious focuses on that precise number. Then pick an exact date to accomplish it by. Such as I will make 120k, after taxes, by December 31st, 2021. Same with weight loss goals, instead of saying "I want to lose weight this year", be specific! I want to lose "50bs by July 1st 2020". Create a strong Reason why you want it. If you have a strong enough reason to achieve a goal, you will follow through. If you don’t, you will quit. When reasons are deep, and the meanings run to the core of who are you, you will push through no matter what obstacles are thrown your way. Lay out a plan and start NOW! Don’t put off starting your goals till Monday, or till the 1st of the month, start now! Procrastination is the silent killer of dreams. It is also responsible for 92% of people that don’t follow through New Years Resolutions. If you keep putting goals and dreams off, you will never reach them. After you set your goals the key questions to ask yourself are: Did this list help you to be happier? Healthier? More productive? Or creative? So grab your pen’s and start your FRESH START21 Goals. Feel Free to share some if you like. I always love seeing what people are working towards. Stay positive. Be kind. Don’t forget to take time for you!!
