Please note that, effective as immediately, Devils Lake is designated for Day Use only. This is to ensure family friendly recreation of the area, and to elimina...te the garbage dumping, human waste, and unauthorized campfires that have been occurring in the area. This order will be enforced by the Conservation Officer Service. See more
Our thoughts are with the friends and family of our brother from Kamloops. Our most sincere condolences on this terrible loss.
Mission Fire Rescue Service members will be patrolling the Stave West area over the next couple of weekends, as there have been significant issues with campfire...s and garbage along the Florence Lake Forest Service Road. Campfires are only allowed in approved fire rings, such as those found in provincial campsites, as per District Bylaw 2975-1996. Campfires not meeting the bylaw will be put out. Please respect the natural beauty of the Stave West area. See more
The same info applies when our fire call-takers are asking questions. Calls are created very quickly and dispatched just as fast. Stopping to take a breath and answer our call-taker’s questions will not result in a slower response.
Tonight firefighters from Station 1 and Station 2 responded to a serious motor vehicle incident on Dewdney Trunk Road. The vehicle had gone off the roadway whic...h required us to set up our embankment rope system. All responders on scene worked seamlessly together. Thanks to the BC Ambulance Service and Rcmp Mission for all their teamwork on scene. The patients were brought up safely and transported to hospital. See more
As part of the #seeandbeseen campaign, staff gave out reflective decals to promote Pedestrian Safety Awareness during the morning commute in November. These ref...lective decals are available for pick-up at the District's Welton Location or the Mission Crime Prevention Office. In BC, every year, on average, 2900 crashes involve a pedestrian. We encourage pedestrians to be reflective as possible to make it easier for drivers to see you in wet weather, at dusk and at night. https://www.facebook.com/DistrictofMission/posts/3871117916233287
Have you signed up for the free app, Alertable? If you have, you would have received this notice this morning advising of road work in the area. MFRS encourages residents to sign up to stay abreast of road work, natural disasters. and other emergencies. Visit Alertable.ca.
E-Comm received a grand total of 1,848,141 9-1-1 calls across #BC in 2020 that’s an average of 5,000 calls per day! Since our call takers receive such a hig...h volume of calls, we ask British Columbians to #HelpUsHelp by keeping 9-1-1 lines free for emergencies only. Learn more at ecomm911.ca #911BC
Current public health orders and restrictions are extended until February 5, to bring down COVID-19 case counts in BC. We continue to see high transmission rate...s through social gatherings. PHO restrictions mean all British Columbians must only socialize with people who live in their households (or core bubble, if you live alone). Everyone must continue to avoid any non-essential travel. Now is the time to stay home, and do your part to keep our hospitals, schools, and workplaces safe. We will get through this by pulling together. See details: www.gov.bc.ca/COVID19restrictions
A great weekend learning about automobile water rescue as well as brushing up on our swift water skills. Big thank you to Adam at Rescue Canada for all his knowledge and to our friends at Mission Search and Rescue for all their help and expertise.
If you haven’t noticed yet, it’s a touch blustery outside. And you might not find any loose objects in the same place later today if they aren’t secured. The Environment Canada warning states winds are expected to gust upwards of 90 km/h throughout the morning and into the afternoon. ... If you see power lines brought down by tree branches, please call 911 and ask for the fire department, and stay at least 10 metres (33 feet) back from any downed lines. Treat all wires as potentially live and keep back. https://weather.gc.ca/warnings/report_e.html?bc40

Without the fear of being called creepy, here is the progress of my Movember Moustache! I shaved my face as clean as it gets these days on November 1st with a g...oal to see how much of a stache I can grow by next Saturday, November 28th when we host our Zoom Music Bingo Fundraiser in support of MOVEMBER presented the Mission Firefighters' Charitable Society. For those who aren't aware, Movember is an international campaign to raise money and awareness for men's health - in particular for testicular and prostrate cancers, as well men's mental health and suicide prevention. I have signed up as a part of The Moustache Mission Team to raise money for Movember with folks from Mission Fire Rescue Service. I'm raising funds and awareness this Movember in memory of my grandfather. Bill Cassel Sr. was a stubborn ole guy who gave cancer a good fight but we lost him 7 years ago. I need your help to keep Grandpa Cassel's memory alive and to raise money in support all of the Grandpas, Dads, Uncles, Nephews, Brothers, Sons and Grandsons. Please donate to support men's health. If you can, please donate at https://ca.movember.com/mospace/14392889 and join us next Saturday night for an evening of great music, fabulous prizes and a whole lots of moustache's in the zoom room for music bingo!

Caption: Photo from a previous live burn training session. A reminder that MFRS will be burning two vacant structures in the 30700-block of Dewdney Trunk Road today (Nov. 21) and tomorrow for a training exercise. Residents should not be alarmed with the number of emergency vehicles in the area, and are asked not to attend to watch. Training runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
MFRS Lieut. Howie Price (also a member of our Honour Guard) represented us at the Royal Canadian Legion this morning for Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Here are a few suggestions along with risk factors if you’re planning events this week for Halloween
EDIT: Dates are important. Now included. Mission Fire Rescue Service (MFRS) will be conducting a two-day, live fire exercise in the Stave Falls area Nov. 21 and 22. The department has been fortunate enough to be granted permission to burn two vacant buildings in the 30700-block of Dewdney Trunk Rd. The training will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days. ... There will be multiple fire apparatus in the area during those times, but it will not impact emergency response throughout the community. This training provides the members of the department with the opportunity to practise tactics and skills that are needed when attending structure fires, said Assistant Chief Nick Rychkun. Please do not be alarmed if you see smoke in that general area as it is part of the training exercises. This training is closed to the general public and MFRS is asking the public refrains from attending to watch, he added. All COVID practices will be enforced and protocols will be in place throughout the exercises. Please don’t call 911 to ask when the power is coming back. BC Hydro is the only entity able to answer that question.
All access to the apartment building on 12th Avenue has now ended. As stated earlier today, responsibility of the building has been transferred from Mission Fire Rescue Service to the restoration company. They will be working to make the building safer for residents, and ensuring suite security. Residents will again be able to access their suites and retrieve more belongings on Friday, Oct. 23 starting at 9 a.m. On that day, a clerk of the works will be stationed at the buil...ding’s front door. To gain entry, you will be asked to show identification. If your ID is in your suite, you will be escorted in to find it. Please remember that as of now, the primary contact will be via [email protected], or by calling 604-455-2284. Mission Emergency Support Services will still be available to answer questions and the phone line will be manned. Please call 604-814-1296 to speak to ESS.
UPDATE: All residents displaced who require items from their suites will only be able to access the building until 5 p.m. today (Oct. 19). After this time, the building will be completely closed for access until Friday, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. while the restoration company makes the building safer for residents, and ensures suite security. Please be organized with what you need to remove. Please keep it to essential items that you cannot live without for 72 hours. There will an opp...ortunity to move other items starting on Oct. 23. On Oct. 23, a clerk of the works will be posted at the building’s front door, and if you are trying to access your suite, you must provide ID.
