April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day. There is no better way to celebrate this day, than by making yourself aware of some of the characteristics that people ...with autism have. We can all do better to increase our own understanding and promote kindness and inclusion. Autism awareness is about supporting people to live, work, play and thrive in their community. It’s about recognizing unique abilities and finding a sports team, a club or a place of employment that will support the strengths and their stretches. We have a marvelous opportunity to look at the world through a different lens and walk in different shoes. See more
Did you know that MACL was founded in 1958 by a handful of parents who wanted to ensure educational opportunities were available to their children? They were no...t welcomed in public schools because they had developmental disabilities. These parents developed an educational program which operated until Special Education classes were created in public schools by the Ministry of Education. From its beginnings as a grassroots family-led organization, MACL has maintained a strong commitment to responding to the needs of individuals and families. Sixty years later, MACL offers a wide variety of housing, training, development, social/recreational and employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities, and are an integral part of the Mission community.
