CARVING A SMALL BRANCH MAN Hey Folks out there in Facebook Land... it is COLD in our neck of the woods...too cold to even be in the Shop last evening... so I took time to make another video. (Side note - it is hard to carve, keep the camera doing what it should be doing... PART ONE - Going along with my Fairy Theme, where Fairies appear to be living in Suitcases and Picnic Baskets - here is how they can travel with you - in a Walnut Shell. Part TWO - Three small Monks and their beds - yet to be painted... Each Monk is wearing his Bark Coat... and barefooted. Snuggle into bed they are happy.

I began with a piece of Mulberry tree that grows in our backyard. This piece is 2 inches in diameter and three inches long. I cuts on the end of the wood to give me four stock pieces to carve the caricature 1 inch high. Keeping proportion is a challenge as well The theme is simple three Old Men are watching one of their friends try to ride a Skateboard. No I didn't cut myself. The small shavings or slices that I take off the body are slow and very carefully planned.... The most difficult part of this was to get a series of clear photos that make sense to the viewer. The three may get further carving yet to get a little thinner. Lots of time before an actual show.
