The Block Party 27.01.2021

Please click " include original post" when you share otherwise the body of the message will not show up in the share to your friends and family. I want to be un...biased but many will think otherwise since I am a contractor for Morenet.. BUT . what the hell let us do this anyways.. To start, Morenets infrastructure is sound and stable, there is no doubt about it. On the subject of variable transmission speeds, the speed your residence will receive is dependent on various environmental and structural variables that can drastically reduce your potential to receive the advertised speeds. Many residents that have been hooked up have experienced this first hand and those who do not have Morenet yet will find this out after an initial consultation. Contrary to the City of Morden 2018 Corporate Plan there's blatant lack of accountability, integrity & respect to the tax payers and there's no transparency from the City council in regards to the direction they're taking with Morenet. Facebook posts from the Mayor that they’re still working on it and posts a news release that they’re working on it is not acceptable. Morenet is a City service and paid for by the residents of Morden and as such should be treated as a necessity as it’s a cost effective public service. The lack of response from the City pertaining to the continuation of Morenet places many families who are financially strapped into a situation of over paying for internet services. Now, if I’m on the wrong path here or am ASS-uming that Morenet is not as cost effective as it’s printed in the Corporate Plan, please enlighten with actual numbers. There were some interesting categories in the 2018-2022 City of Morden Corporate Plan that I found very contrary to the way the council represents themselves (see link): mordenmb.com/wp-content/uploads//04/2018-Corporate-Plan.pdf (L)eading Change: We are leaders of change by providing an environment that is progressive, creative and innovative. (I)ntegrity: We adhere to moral and ethical principles, we say what we mean, and mean what we say. (A)ccountability: We are accountable in all our dealings. Our actions and our words will serve the Community. (R)espect: We actively listen to our community, stakeholders and our staff, to understand their positions The acronym LIAR pretty much sums up the corporate plan set out by the City IMO. Furthermore, on the bottom of page 12, there is the 5 year investment to Morenet in the sum of 1.54 million. What and where did these funds come from? How were the calculations calculated for the numbers that were printed in the corporate plan? What becomes of the allocated funds for Morenet? With only $ 420,000 that has been used as printed on the corporate plan for 2018, what about the $ 440,000 for 2019? Since no connections were performed for 2019, the allocations of funds are where? In conclusion, please don't pull a Trudeau (NOT AS ADVERTISED) and tap dance around the question....... answer the question What is happening with Morenet? Please share this post with any Morden tax payer that is fed up with inaction and wants an actual answer.

Just a reminder that unfortunately for the first time in 12 years there will be no Block Party this weekend. There has been some old advertisements from books or informational materials that were published last year and prior to our announcement of the cancellation. Please forward this to anyone who might think that the Block Party is still happening. Don't want anyone to come for this event and find out that it isn't happening. Thank You

We're now offering Group Buys starting in April 2018. If your not familiar with Group Buys, this is a offer to a group of people wanting to purchase the same pa...rts/equipment for a reduced price based on higher quantities. With all Group Buys, the customer would have to pay for the product(s) up front and would then be notified when the buy ends and would then have to pick up the products at the store location ( unless otherwise arranged ). We need some ideas from you as to what we should have Group Buys on ? You can PM us or reply on this post. See more

Public Announcement After several meetings and much discussion, The Morden Block Party committee has decided to end the event, effective immediately. This year’s event that had been scheduled for Saturday June 2, 2018 will not take place. As for the future, it is possible the event could be held again, under the same name and format or perhaps a different way, but there are no imminent plans to do so. There are several reasons for this. The primary reason is essentially com...mittee and organizer burn-out. Since its inception in 2007, The Block Party has grown into a major event and takes months of planning, marketing, execution, and perhaps most notably for the organizers, stress. The amount of work involved has become almost overwhelming, to the point where many of us have lost our enthusiasm and love of the event. Make no mistake, this is a very difficult decision. The sole purpose of the Block Party was to showcase local businesses and to say thanks to our customers by offering a free day of fun, food, and entertainment. It also evolved into a major fundraiser for local charity Morden Youth for Christ, and more recently, Pembina Valley Humane Society. Funds raised over the past 11 years topped $40,000, which we are very proud of. The committee, organizers, and volunteers gave their heart and soul to The Block Party over the past 11 years. It evolved from a modest car show, kid’s park and entertainment that took up 2 blocks of downtown Morden, into multiple events, displays, food vendors, and entertainment encompassing a full 6 blocks in downtown Morden. We are very proud of what it has become and it almost seems impossible that there were 11 of them. The excitement and anticipation that happened each January when we first met to plan the year’s event had wavered over the years, and it was apparent that now was the time to move on before our love of the event left us too. We would like to give a huge thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, committee members, businesses, and most importantly our customers who helped grow The Block Party and made it such a fun and fulfilling event for all of us. Without all the support and positive energy, none of it would have been possible. Special thanks to the City of Morden, who helped get The Block Party started with funding and the use of their bleachers and other infrastructure as well to the Corn and Apple Festival for free use of their facility and resources. Once again, this was not an easy decision, but we feel it was the right one at the right time.
