December 10th is Human Rights Day, and New Brunswick has a very special relationship with this significant day. John Peters Humphrey, from Hampton NB, is the principal author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. "The principal author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was a native of New Brunswick, John Peters Humphrey. He wrote the first draft of what eventually became perhaps the most important human rights document in history. The Declaration was unanim...ously passed by the United Nations' General Assembly on December 10, 1948. To mark this milestone, December 10 is recognized worldwide as Human Rights Day." https://www2.gnb.ca//education-a/john-peters-humphrey.html

Just a reminder to submit your videos by December 15th. They can just be a short greeting, and introduce yourself/family and where you are from, in the language of your choice! Thank you so much- we look forward to putting together this wonderful and diverse holiday video!
We are returning to the Yellow Phase effective December 11th, 2020. MAS will not be returning to full in-office services until after the holiday break ending J...anuary 4th, 2021. This means that all classes and activities will continue over ZOOM at this time. We will re-introduce in-person classes in the new year, and we will be using a blended method of learning (some virtual and some in-person) For appointments and meetings you are still required to make an appointment, we will not be accepting walk ins at this time.
We are so blessed to have such an amazing team at MAS, one of our volunteers was unable to come in for English class, so our Office Admin, Jasmine, stepped up and taught the class! The students absolutely loved her! We are so proud of Jasmine and so fortunate to have her with us as our Summer-student intern. She has added so much life to our organization and is incredibly compassionate, hardworking, and devoted to helping others in any capacity. If there's a job to be done,... Jasmine always offers to help and she goes the extra mile to make sure everyone's needs are met. We couldn't be more proud of her and we know that once her term is over with us she will continue to change peoples' lives for the better. Thank you for shining so brightly Jasmine, you make the world a better place #staffappreciation #nonprofits #multiculturalassociation #sussexnb
Good morning everyone. We would like to apologize for the mistake made on the calendar for this week. The Senior Culture Club will be held tonight from 5:30 P.M- 6:30 P.M instead of what was stated for last night.
Join us for an online Book Club meeting! We will be discussing book The Cats Came Back by Sofie Kelly. Space is limited to 10 people, so please register and pi...ck your book up early at the Sussex Regional Library. Contact us at [email protected] to register and to get your Zoom login information! The book description! The charming Minnesota town of Mayville Heights is hosting a music festival, and the whole place is bustling with musicians and tourists. Kathleen is looking forward to taking in some fabulous performances--and her two cats, Owen and Hercules, are looking forward to taking in some fabulous sardine crackers. But then the trio stumbles across a dead body by the river. The victim is a close friend-who also happens to be a look-alike of a popular cabaret singer set to perform at the festival. Who could have wanted to harm this innocent girl? Was it a case of mistaken identity?
Please join us in welcoming our newest member of the team- Manwa! Manwa started with us last week and has been an incredible asset to the team. She is funny, kind, and loving, and we absolutely adore her. She is a newcomer herself, as she moved to Sussex with her family as Syrian refugee in 2016. Manwa went through the integration process and knows first hand how difficult it can be, and she has been assisting with other newcomers and refugees since. She was one of the origi...nal members of the very first English classes created by the group Community Action for Refugees- Sussex which actually sparked the creation of the Multicultural Association of Sussex! Manwa will be providing childcare to other newcomers while they attend English classes, and can help other newcomers, as well as teach us about her culture. If you didn't know already, Manwa is an amazing cook and has contributed to many of our past events by sharing her delicious dishes with our community (pre-pandemic of course). Please give Manwa your warmest welcome as she embarks on this journey with us. This is her first official work experience and it is thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs funding which is a program open to employers to help individuals gain work experience. We hope to help Manwa move forward in a wonderful career and we know that she will do great things in her future. <3
