We're so excited for this! #LocalHeroes #AtlanticCanada #comingsoon
Dalhousie University President Deep Saini is reading Donald Savoie's "Thanks for the Business", and this is what he has to say: "... [it's] a fascinating account of the Irving family and Irving Oil. One quote from Arthur Irving early in the book caught my eye: 'We are good to nobody if we are not successful.' These words have a special relevance for Dalhousie." #ReadLocal #AtlanticCanada #BeInspired
Our library is arranged chronologically.... how is yours arranged?
We are so pleased that Len Wagg's book Stay the Blazes Home is on the Toronto Star National Bestseller list! The only indie publisher on this list.
Nearly every coastal nation has folkloric beings who are part human, part sea creature. In "The Mermaid Handbook", Taylor Widrig brings us profiles of merma...ids and other mer-people from around the world (including Minnow, the Mi'kmaq mermaid). But she also tells host Costas Halavrezos how young people can adopt the "mermaid way of life" - everything from how to treat the environment with respect, to using dulse, kelp, and sea lettuce in our cooking. We're excited for this one! We always love to laugh, but we need it now more than ever. #Humour #Local
Telling ghost stories on Christmas Eve is a long-standing tradition that was made popular by Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol. Charis Cotter, author of Screech! Ghost Stories from Old Newfoundland (chosen by CBC Books as a ‘Best Canadian YA and middle-grade book of 2020) has a new ghost story to share. Look for the link on Christmas Eve morning, and settle in for a spooky tale...(with dolls!) https://nimbus.ca/store/screech.html
Guess who stopped in to sign some books this evening?! Thanks for coming to say hi Len Wagg Photography!
On the 12th day of Nimbus Christmas, my true love gave to me... Wild Pond Hockey by Jeffrey Domm Jeff Domm is an award-winning illustrator and wildlife artist who has illustrated dozens of books, including several children’s books for Nimbus but I have to say this is my favourite Jeff Domm book to date!... There has been some pretty heated debate over who really invented the game of hockey some claim that Canada’s official winter sport was invented in Windsor, NS, or perhaps it was invented by Indigenous peoples, while others have shown compelling evidence that Dartmouth, NS is actually the birthplace of hockey (Hockey’s HomeThe Origin of Canada’s Game, Nimbus). Jeff Domm’s lively, re-imagining of hockey’s origin story in Wild Pond Hockey may put all these theories to rest. Jeff’s illustrations are beautifully detailed, and the lively text draws you into the story of how a curious wolf pack while investigating the ruckus caused by two ravens playing with a piece of ice on a frozen pond inadvertently create a new game. Not only are the illustrations accurate down to the last hair on the wolves' heads, but Jeff has shown us the playful nature of wolves and has given them personalities. Wild Pond Hockey is an excellent book for wildlife lovers and hockey fans alike! - Heather, Production Manager/Art Director #readlocal #supportlocal #localbooks #canadianauthors #canadianartists #canadianpublisher #canadianbooks #booklovers #bookworms #bookstagram #bookclub #behindthescenes #halifax #novascotia #atlanticcanada #canada #nimbusstaffpicks #12daysofchristmas
