After running our FB holiday ads, we noticed there seems to be a bit of a misconception that small businesses are gouging consumers by inflating shipping costs to increase our profits. See the attached shipping label that was just created to ship a SINGLE item from Nova Scotia to Alberta. This customer paid us $12 for flat rate shipping but we paid Canada Post $17.24 for postage (AFTER our small business discount) as well as the cost of our shipping envelope ($1.50 - $2 plus ...HST). This would have cost at least an additional $3-$5 if we were shipping to British Columbia. We haven’t gained any profits, instead saw a loss of $7 - $8 on that order. We fully realize this a cost of doing business and we’ll gladly do it again! We simply wanted to point out that often the reason small business shipping costs seem high, is due to the fact that shipping costs ARE high. Once we start selling billions each quarter like Amazon we’ll hopefully be able to offer free shipping on all of our orders too This isn’t a rant but rather a myth buster. We’re super grateful and ecstatic for all the online orders we’ve seen this yearthank you! We’re also not trying to slam Canada Post, they are the cheapest option we’ve found and have been super happy with their delivery times for us this year! Please share if you feel inclined.
