Hi Northumberland County! Are you fed up with being stuck in self isolation? Does your daily routine include mindlessly watching cat videos on the Internet?... Do you want to help out from the comfort of your own home? If you have answered yes to any of the above questions then please read on... Northumberland Makers is calling upon anyone willing to volunteer with tasks that are required in our community. We need people of all ages. No one is too young or too old to help. Do you sew? We have Makers sewing cloth masks, surgical caps, headbands and mask ear savers. We can use your time, your sewing machine and your skills. Did you get a 3D Printer for Christmas and now it's an end table because it is still in the box? We have people dedicated to 3D Printing Face Shields for our front-line workers. April 13, 2020 For Immediate Release Northumberland County A community working together to innovate. Northumberland Makers (https://northumberlandmakers.ca) is proud to play an essential role in The Northumberland.io Producer Alliance. This Alliance is a self-organized group of local manufacturers, makers, engineers, producers and volunteers who have come together to rapidly innovate in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.... On March 20, 2020 the Government of Canada released the Canada’s Plan to Mobilize Industry to fight COVID-19 which focuses on domestic capacity building, innovative solutions, and procurement of essential supplies. All levels of innovative industry from large scale manufacturers to hobbyists are being challenged to develop research-based solutions, technologies, and products that can address a variety of COVID-19 issues. (https://pm.gc.ca//prime-minister-announces-canadas-plan-mo) Northumberland Makers together with a network of makers throughout Northumberland County, have plugged-in their 3D printers and Sewing machines and have picked-up their scissors to produce essential supplies for first responders which are in short supply. Northumberland Makers is proud to be playing an essential role in the production and assembly of 3D Printed Face Shields. Dozens of local Makers have been contributing by printing the Face Shields on their 3D printers and sewing the elastic headbands. On Sunday April 12th, Northumberland Makers participated by assembling over 100 masks which are to be delivered. The parts for another 400+ masks are working their way through the Alliance pipeline and will be assembled soon. Phil Mandryk President, Northumberland Makers ([email protected]). We would appreciate any local Makers interested in lending support to go to the Join page at Northumberland.io Producer Alliance (https://northumberland.io/). Northumberland Makers is based out of the Venture13 MakerLab in Cobourg, Ontario. The MakerLab is shared with the Microfactory Co-operative a small scale innovation and production facility. The MakerLab serves as the intersection of curiosity and expertise in Northumberland County. Makers of all ages benefit from educational programs and summer camps; skills workshops and of course access to great tools. Our programs (including our popular summer camps) have all been cancelled and we are focused on solving the immediate need for medical supplies in Northumberland County.

On Saturday February 15th, Northumberland Makers shared time and space with the Microfactory - and what a bright day it was! Alex (Microfactory) was working with a team from Turnkey Aquaponics Inc., a student led start-up. This company is focused on addressing the economic feasibility of environmentally controlled agriculture by designing, manufacturing and providing innovative engineering solutions. Turnkey Aquaponics specialize in aquaponics which is a form of agriculture... that combines hydroponics, the growing of plants in water, and aquaculture, the farming of aquatic organisms into a symbiotic self-contained system. Michael Veneziano, CEO and Co-Founder says that the LED grow lights they were building have yet to be named, but hope to sell them within the next two months. Northumberland Makers is happy to help support local start-ups. Hope Turnkey Aquaponics light up the future with their sustainable ideas and innovations. https://www.turnkeyaquaponics.ca
