Nova Scotia Teachers Union 14.06.2021

1,125 educators in Nova Scotia responded to a questionnaire from CBC News asking teachers about their experiences in the 2020-2021 school year. About 16 per cent of the people who received the questionnaire filled it out. The vast majority said they were worried about contracting COVID at work. Around 60 per cent said they were very concerned while about 30 per cent said they were somewhat concerned.

If there’s data to say that air is safe and good in schools, I can’t understand for the life of me why that data wouldn’t be made public yesterday, said NSTU President Paul Wozney.

Teachers approve tentative agreement Nova Scotia’s 9,300 public school teachers have endorsed a tentative agreement reached between the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and the provincial government on October 23. Our members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of this agreement, says NSTU president Paul Wozney. The diligent work of the bargaining team and this vote result indicate it’s a fair and reasonable contract for public school teachers in the province.... https://www.actforeducation.ca/n/teachers-ratify-agreement/

Wozney is concerned about the past too. I have kids, he said. My oldest is in grade 12. Looking at the results, all the schools that my high school senior has attended have had water quality issues. They’ve been drinking unsafe water every year that they’ve attended school and that’s never been communicated to me as a parent. "And for teachers, the lead issues could mean they were subject to years or even decades of exposure."... https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca//nova-scotia-education-min/

Late this afternoon, the province released water testing results for Nova Scotia's 350+ schools. While a majority passed, over 5,500 water sources (20%) in Nova Scotia schools were found to have unsafe levels of lead that exceed federal limits. You can find the result for your local school at this link: https://www.ednet.ns.ca/water-test-results
