The Dirty Dozen vs The Clean 15: Some foods have been shown to have HIGHER levels of pesticide treatment. This is known as "The Dirty Dozen" If you need to pick... which vegetables to buy organically, it is best to choose the foods listed in the "Dirty Dozen." The "Clean 15" are the foods that have the least amount of pesticide treatment. @doctorheathernd @baseline_wellness @theacchilliwack

I get A LOT of questions about the Keto diet and my own views about the newest healthy eating craze. Eating and lifestyle choices are all about balance, so I use the 80/20 rule quite a bit for personal use and with clients. Eat well 80% of the time and your body will respond in a positive manner. The rigid diet of Keto breaks this rule, so I don’t typically recommend it for the masses. What to eat each day takes a big focus on planning and meal prepping and if you’re fully... participating in this style of eating, some number crunching to ensure you’re getting it right. My experience as a registered holistic nutritionist is that people already fail to spend enough time in the kitchen to properly nourish their bodies. There are exceptions of course (the Keto diet is great for a few medical conditions where a restriction of carbohydrates is necessary) and I do support clients that I know will benefitbut most people don’t fall into that category. Beyond being difficult to maintain over time, there is limited scientific proof that this style of eating is healthy for the long term. In fact, a lot of research is proving that the fiber we eat not only keeps the tissues of our digestive systems healthy, it also feeds the healthy bacteria that live there keeping potentially harmful bacteria outnumbered (we all have a balance of good and bad). Other studies show just how important those beneficial bacteria are for all of our body systems, from our skin to our brains. The extreme lack of carbohydrates means a steep drop in consuming that important fiber = not enough food for those bacterial helpers. Our bodies are quite resilient, so you may not experience any negative side effects at first but over time, issues may appear. Science hasn’t caught up with this trend, and the jury is still out, we should continue to follow the eating habits of our ancestors until we know more. Lastly, healthy fats don’t offer the same nutrient-density that we receive from carbohydrates (eat a rainbow!), so nutrient deficiency over time is a real concern. Athletes tend to burn through more nutrients than those that aren’t active, so nutrient density is even more important for that tribe! Plus, the body will put on pounds when people reintroduce carbohydrates to their diets, which is frustrating if you’ve met your weight and body composition goals. Instead, I recommend a more balanced approach that will serve you for the long-term. Losing 1-2 pounds per week is the best approach for keeping that weight off in the long run and you get to enjoy all of the wonderful foods the planet has to offer. Before going Keto, ask yourself: Is this really the best option for my health and goals?

Opponents of fish farms have been saying this for years and we have the proof via fish lice coming from halfway around the planet. Why do we continue to take our waterways for granted? Let's take notice!
