As some of you may be aware, Newcastle residents Leslie & Brian Wilson lost everything in a house fire on Nov. 25. With no insurance and no savings, any help the Newcastle community can give will be greatly appreciated.UPDATE - for those who wish to donate using e-transfer or by going to the bank: to use e-transfer, please use the email address: [email protected]

Do you live in a house built before 1920? We want to hear from you! Newcastle, we want your houses on file! We’ve been talking about doing an inventory of our older houses in a more organized manner for some time so now, as an adjunct to our digitization project, we are asking you to help us kickstart this project.... What can you do to participate? If your house is from 1920 or earlier, we ask that you send us at least one photo, the address and any pertinent information you have. Fill out the simple form on our website and then we’ll give you instructions for sending photos after you contact us. If you have old photos, we’re interested in those too. We can search old deeds to trace ownership, but if you have information on previous owners, builder or anything else unique, send it along. We’ll be featuring some of the houses on our website, Instagram, Facebook and in our newsletters. (We will contact you before doing that, of course) If you own a house that is newer than 1920, but is in some way unique, we’d like to hear from you too. Houses of interest would include 1930s and 1940s kit houses, architect-designed houses or a houses built with unusual materials or methods that could make them historically significant.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Don't forget to look up in the sky at the moon . There will be a blue moon tonight. What makes this blue moon so rare is that it will be seen in every time zone. The last time that happened was in 1944, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.... On average, blue moons appear on Halloween once every 19 years and are only visible to those who live in certain time zones. The last full moon that appeared on Halloween was on Oct. 31, 2001 and it was only seen by people in central and Pacific time zones. https://beta.ctvnews.ca//sci-tech/2020/10/30/1_5168725.html

WE WILL REMEMBER... The banners displayed on King Ave, running east and west between Mill and Baldwin Street is an ongoing legacy project in an effort to engage the communities in honouring and remembering local veterans. Today we pay tribute to our local veterans and honour the contributions and sacrifices they have made on behalf of communities and the nation. With great honor, please join us in recognizing ... James H.G. Wallace Bruce R. Burley Jarvis E. Belsey Ronald P. Burley Robert A. Bothwell Michael Owchar Cyril W. Quinney Douglas G. Walton. Thank you Newcastle Public School for creating a very personal showing of support for our Heroes. Nearly 650 students created a "Rock Poppy." Many of them had dedications made on them. Classes walked to the Cenotaph at the Newcastle Community Hall and placed their poppies for the ceremony that will be taking place today.

The Newcastle clock tower has captured over 90 years of time within our Newcastle Village. It was built by the same manufacturer that made London’s famous Big Ben! Today we would like to share with you a video that captures the mechanics of the clock located in the Newcastle Community Town Hall and how we wind it weekly.

If you saw our post yesterday, here is a jewellery box that was made from JASCO( the BOX FACTORY). JASCO was a jewellery and silverware cabinet company that was located in the old Massey Manufacturing factory at the corner of Beaver and King. The factory sat vacant for a number of years until 1916 when cabinet maker, James Anderson Smith purchased it.
