Oasis Addiction Recovery Society 23.11.2020

November 9, 2020 We would like to update you about the Funeral Services for Takis Liris Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by health authority, participation at the Funeral Services is limited to 30 people. As a result, only immediate family, close friends and associates are able to be present.... We understand that many of you who wished to be there and pay your respects, feel saddened. We will organize a memorial service to celebrate Takis’s life and contributions to the community at a future time when restrictions are lifted. We appreciate your understanding. See more

Oasis Addiction Recovery Society 10.11.2020

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the Director of Operations and co-founder of Oasis Addiction Recovery Society, Takis Liris. For those of us in the addiction recovery community, we have lost a father, a brother, a mentor. Takis was a pillar of strength who offered hope, compassion, and built an Oasis where all who were in addiction recovery could find support and solace. People could relax, have a cup of coffee, and talk to other ...people who knew what they were going through. Spanning over two and a half decades, his dream was to offer assistance to those who overcame addiction to regain their self-esteem, rebuild their lives and become functioning and contributing members of society through viable employment. Finally, the seemingly impossible for so many, was made possible. This same vision lives on today as over 500 people are welcomed annually. Everyone who walks through our doors is part of something bigger than themselves. They are part of a vision of rebuilding and renewal. As Takis has said To assist someone who is already on an up curve is nice. But to help someone who’s down pick himself up now there’s an accomplishment. And who better to know about picking themselves up than Takis a recovering alcoholic himself. He welcomed everyone with a warm smile and genuine openheartedness and above all a practical way forward to stability, education and employment! Takis leaves behind his lifelong partner and devoted wife Kety, his two sons, daughters in law and five grandchildren. For them the loss is immeasurable. We offer our sincere condolences. It is often said that a man’s legacy may be in what he has accomplished throughout the span of his life, and while true, perhaps even more accurate in Taki’s situation, his legacy may be found in the thousands of lives that he touched and changed for the better. We take what you have gifted us Taki and promise to move forward keeping your voice and vision alive. Sleep well friend and know that you have left the world a better place. Takis Liris - Date of Birth 04-04-1938 Date of Death 06-11-2020 Funeral Arrangements will be posted as soon they are available

THOUGHTS ABOUT RECOVERY Recovery and Respect From the book: Change Is Possible Some individuals are so wrapped up in themselves that they do not have time to see, understand or feel empathy for others or what is going on around them.... Their grandiosity does not allow them to build the communication skills or compassion needed to build strong relationships, therefore, they do not gain respect from other people. They do not know or understand that the ability to respect others is a sign of maturity and a step towards freedom from the bad side of their character. For people in recovery, it is extremely important to develop a sense of respect not only for themselves but, even more importantly, for others in order to start living a more healthy, happy, sober life.
