"your future self loves you. they will look through old photos of you with affection, not disgust, nor embarrassment. they wish they could tell you stories of your future, of how much you’ll change, of the people you’ll meet, of how you’ll eventually learn to accept yourself, then love yourself. they will read your diary entries and poems and favorite lyrics, heart aching, tears in their eyes. if only you knew your future self loves you. if only they could show you. they are... living proof. you’ll turn out okay after all. they wish they were there to console you, dance with you, and make you write it a hundred times: I AM LOVED. they will listen to playlists you made, just to experience you again. they will write you a letter - of forgiveness, longing, reassurance. you will never read it. but you will know." flowerais.tumblr.com #ToBeVulnerablyHonest artwork by instagram.com/ana_godis

Important words from one of our teachers Kailee. Glad to see you all coming to classes and getting back into the groove. Posted @withregram @adaptandflow ! Mobility flexibility. Often times we are chasing an aesthetic goal with yoga poses. We want to have our bellies and chest flat in forward fold and we want to do deep backbends where our legs touch our heads. But remember, while these photos are beautiful, they are .... Normal range of motion, or , does not always mean you are flexible (in the stereotypical sense)! It means your joints and muscles are strong, adaptable, and can move within a healthy range. It means you feel good in your movement practice. It means you are able to live life with a reduced potential for injury! . This Saturday, you have 2 chances to add some mobility work into your life @omhotyoga. Ill be teaching yoga at 10 and 12. Classes fill up, so sign in via the link in my bio!

Please share and re-share!!!! During Covid I had a lot of time to think about all my past experiences in life and what really brought me joy. Singing with these... peeps has always been at the top of that list. Over the course of the last 25 years they have remained in my life as friends and inspirations. So when I proposed this little project many of them jumped at the chance. So off we went. Getting everyone to record their track from all over Canada proved to be an interesting challenge. Compiling and mixing (Which is new to me) took a few weeks. And you can hear we still mix pretty damn good together. Now what to do next? Well, why not a video?! As the video submissions came in, and the tears flowed, things around me were starting to erupt. The George Floyd protests started an important conversation nationally and globally. I started to think about these events everytime I was editing this video together. Do I put this video together as a passion project for me and my friends as a little keep sake? Or do I think bigger? A conversation I had with one of my classmates, and the fear they feel daily for their children being of colour in a world that is stacked against them, made me really think. How do I use this platform I have been given to support the voices that need to be really heard right now. So I started reaching out to my friends circle asking them to provide video clips to add. Everyone in this video is in my life as family, a friend, or an inspiration. From friends of all colours, to my family, to my chosen family in our LGTBQ+ community. And especially to my trans friends inspiring me to live authentically. These videos come from all over the world. Across Canada, New York, Vegas, England and Europe. Thank you to all my friends for being part of this. I recognize my privilege, I am sitting listening to stories, and most importantly I am doing the personal work needed to be the best ally I can be. My hope is that this video, showing that love is love, and that we are all part of the human race, allows you to start having the important conversation with yourself or your children. All lives can not matter until we start recognizing that certain lives need to be elevated. We may have equality on paper and in law, but we do not have equity or justice for all. Especially black people, indigenous people, and trans people of colour. The fruits from the tree of life have been grown in the direction of white people in our nation. These fruits are essentially available to all, but the branches have been lowered for white people to access them freely and easily. People of colour and the trans community have to work that much harder to have what is so easily given to white people. From walking free from harrasement and fear of the police, to opportunities, to children growing up in vastly different worlds. We need to spread the sunshine to all branches, everyone needs to be offered the fruits of life with the same ease you and myself experience. So show this video to your kids, have the conversation. Show them that Gay is ok, Trans is beautiful, and that we need to see colour, really see it. The only way to change is to listen to the stories that are different then your own, to educate ourselves. So start getting uncomfortable, for its in discomfort that we begin to churn the earth. We have the opportunity right now, we are at the edge of a paradigm shift, so start asking yourself "what am I doing to perpetuate my biases?", and what can I do to uplift and support others? Now is the time, No day but to today!! (See what I did there?) Thank you for listening. Literature about Racism, fighting racism, and being an ally.
(Long read. Important piece at the end by my friend) I have a friend who Ive known for 25 years and is near and dear to my heart. She has two young boys, one ...who has just come of that age where life is changing for him. Ive had nights thinking about them and how difficult it must be for any black man in society to have to constantly think about their actions in public. To be scared that they will be pointed out, profiled, or judged by their skin colour first and foremost. Ive understood prejudice being a gay man who grew up when things were tough. But I could make the effort to fit in to most groups because i was a white man. I will never comprehend racism because I walk into a room and people see a white male first. Top of the ladder so to speak. Being able to walk down any street, enter any store, be alone in any situation because of my race has made my life easier. (We all have our hardships but that doesnt negate that our whiteness is the biggest privilege weve been given at birth). After talking to my friend yesterday and hearing her fears, and depth of sadness I am sad for her and all parents of children of colour. She agreed to let me post her post, but I also choose to leave her name out as shes afraid of drawing attention to her child whos already dealing with so much. But I also choose to educate myself. Its fine and dandy to change your profile pic to a black square for a day, but what do you do after that? Do you just go back to your comfortable white lives feeling bad about the way things are? But dont do any follow up? The follow through on this is to start by reading these POC stories. And I mean really read, read until you get uncomfortable with yourself. Start realizing youve been unintentionally biased and thats just as bad as being outright racist. But that doesnt make you a bad person if youve learned from your past and choose to be different from today on. Recognize youve said I dont see race or colour and how that negates someones story. A persons race is something that has defined them, and is a source of pride for them. And youve shot it down in one small sentence. (Something I know Ive said in the past). Have you said all lives matter? How does that feel to someone who is trying to be heard, to someone who just experienced racism on their daily outing, and they want to stand strong against it? To then have that statement and its broad strokes of whitewashing simply brush it away (Something Ive said in the past). There are so many more examples of these inherent biases. And things we do to bring it back to us. Things we do to make ourselves feel comfortable again. Things we do to bring us back into a position of power that just need to stop. Things that silently oppress POC, even some who we say we love, but are unwilling to truly stand beside them in this moment of need? So I choose to educate myself on these issues. Even when it makes me uncomfortable, makes my heart ache, makes me feel less than I was yesterday because the words are tough to hear. These are things that POC feel all the time and to be an ally you need to know what youre helping to fight against. You may not feel it as its not your story, but you understand its true implications. So I will be posting a lot of material and resources to offer you and myself the opportunity. You have the choice of muting me, and/or unfollowing me to remain comfortable. And thats your choice. But to be an ally, a true ally you have to do the hard work first to truly stand beside your friends of colour. Hand them the mic when they need it. Stand in front of them if their lives are jeopardy. Or help them with your privilege. But only doing so once youve done the work. Because we can create and cause even more harm unintentionally because we are inserting ourselves or saying something that gaslights or has implied biases that we didnt realize. It requires the work. So I am pulling out my Layla Saad workbook for a second time and looking it over and studying it. Required work for anyone who wants to be an ally. Look up other authors. Carefully follow leaders that youre willing to learn from. My one statement here is be cautious about including your POC friends in on this as they are already dealing with so much right now. They may not have the energy in their hearts to educate their white friends and deal with the white fragility that often is exposed. If you need there are white allies doing a lot. Why not pose the question to them first, get it from someone whos done the work themselves. I have a friend who is truly a mentor in being an ally who I constantly go to for resources or to be a sounding board. So if you need someone who will listen to your questions, and do the work with you. Then reach out to me. Because I want to be a real ally too. Cause things need to change. Equality isnt enough. Equity and justice are needed for all. So to my original point. Heres my friends post. Listen to the words of a mother about her children and let it sink in. Really sink in. Then lets chat. This is my friends post (re-posted with permission of both her and her son). It bears amplification and attention. ********** I dont have answers. But this is my ask. Help my son and keep an eye out for him. For those of you who know my eldest, events of the year are getting to him. This past week has been horrible. If you see him wearing a mask, its because of the pandemic. If you see him running, its because hes trying to keep in shape for football, wrestling, and rugby. If you see him wearing a hoodie, its because hes cold. If hes alone, its because hes social distancing. He is 17 and realizing that he has gone from being cute to a threat. We have had conversations about the stigma of hoodies, the danger of playing music too loud on your headphones, of putting your hands in your pockets, how to safely engage with the cops, because he wants to be one when hes older. Weve talked. Now you talk. Have conversations with your kids about how not to escalate a situation if hes with them, because chances are my kid gets punished, not yours. If you see him in trouble with an authority figure ACT. Dont wait. Intervene. Hes scared and trying to remain calm, but he will feel like his life is at stake. Dont stand by. Stand. No. I dont want to talk about it. No. I dont want to get stuck in the position of having to make you feel better about other peoples biases and prejudice. ********
Online rally today! There are more this week. Stand with your community
Please buy a Cyber Drop In today. All money collected will be going to the Black Youth Help Aline and to Assembly of First Nations. We stand with all POC in our community in the fight to end racism and injustice. #raisemelanatedvoices #blackouttuesday
