We may study and work from home right now, but many may still need access to campus services and facilities. With winter coming, here’s an update on how we will operate during winter weather this year.

A U.S.-based tech company challenged students to revolutionize the Internet and improve person-to-person connections and two of our Computer Science students answered that call. With the application of technology to improve the lives of humans and the planet woven into everything we do at Ontario Tech, the solution developed by Xavier Chanthavong and Frede Emnetu earned top marks.

Our relationship with City of Oshawa - Municipal Government is critical to the success of the university and our research. Last week we welcomed Mayor Dan Carter and Regional Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri into the ACE Climatic Wind Tunnel to share updates on Project Arrow and the progress of our Moving Ground Plane.

Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20 honours the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. This observan...ce was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. On this day, everyone is encouraged to reflect on how we can each do better to speak out against transphobia and to support trans, non-binary, and gender diverse peoples. The resources below show some ways that you can start, including attending the RISE: Trans Identities workshop happening on November 23 at 5:30 p.m. We recognize that this can be a really difficult day for the transgender and non-binary people in our community. It was a unique undergraduate program, hands-on labs and experiential learning opportunities that first drew Laura Rafferty to apply to Ontario Tech University, but our supportive environment and collaborative research projects have led to her pursue both her master’s degree and PhD studies over the last 10 years. Today Laura is applying the knowledge and experience she gained at the university to help one of Canada’s biggest banks #GetCyberSafe.
