When you go for a dental exam, your dentist checks your fillings and may suggest that you replace any loose or broken ones. Your dentist also looks for signs of decay, such as brown or black spots and may want to use X-rays to take a closer look at problem spots. If you have a cavity, your dentist may keep an eye on it (if it's small) or fill it right away. If a large cavity is not filled, it can get bigger and cause pain. The tooth may even have to be removed and replaced wi...th a false (or artificial) tooth. Source : Canadian Dental Association #ColonnadeDental in #Ottawa #DrAlanTang Call us today! Office closure Appointments cancelled -COVID-19 Update Dear patients and extended dental family:... The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (the Governing body) issued a message on March 15 2020 to all dentists in Ontario strongly recommending all non-emergent and elective dental services be suspended immediately until further notice. This is unprecedented. However, as a team, we have made a decision to comply with this recommendation to continue to ensure the health of our team, our patients, and their families. We will continue to be available for all patients with DENTAL EMERGENCIES and continue to treat them, as recommended by the College. Please call our office at 613-225-1660 for the latest details if you are in pain or have another emergency. As of March 16 2020, all hygiene (cleaning) appointments are cancelled, as are fillings and other non urgent procedures until April 1 2020 at least. We ask that if you are coming in for emergency treatment that you arrive at the appointment time. Please wait in your car until your appointment time if you are early to avoid interaction with others as much as possible. The Colonnade Dental Team has always been committed to the highest standards of care and infection control at all times. It is our obligation and responsibility to protect our team and all of our patients by using the best and most up to date sterilization and antimicrobial techniques for all of our instruments, dental tools and in our treatment rooms on a daily basis. During the current outbreak of COVID-19, we have stepped up our methods in common areas to prevent the spread of this Coronavirus. Our entranceway, reception area and bathroom are disinfected after every patient during the day. We wipe down all chairs, tables, counter tops, light switches, door handles, the Point of Sale terminal (debit machine), benches, pens, ipads and signature pads with hospital grade disinfectant. We have removed all magazines and the coffee machine. Please excuse our lack of handshaking at this time, but we are happy to greet you with an elbow bump. We are also asking if you have a cough, fever or chills, please call and reschedule your appointment. Instituting these higher standards will help aid in the health and safety for you and our entire team. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these uncertain times. Our priority remains the safety and health of all of our patients and team members. We look forward to restoring our full services once this crisis resolves and will be contacting all patients affected by our closure at that time. Colonnade Dental Team

A fixed bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. It is called a bridge because it covers a gap, and the bridge is supported by teeth or implants on one or both sides of that gap. The supporting teeth or implants are sometimes called abutments. In this procedure, each abutment is prepared to receive full crowns or caps. When completed, the bridge is cemented into position over the supporting abutments. Source : Ontario Dental Association #ColonnadeDental in #Ottawa... #DrAlanTang Call us today! Bonding is a treatment that can be used to repair teeth that are decayed, chipped, fractured or discoloured or to reduce gaps between teeth. For this procedure, a dentist mixes composite resin a type of plastic into a paste, then tints the mixture to whiten or match the color of your teeth. Several layers of resin are applied to each tooth. Each layer is hardened under an ultraviolet light or laser. Final steps include shaping and polishing the resin material so the finis...hed tooth looks natural and smooth. If you frequently wake up with a sore jaw, a dull headache or tooth pain, you may suffering from a condition called bruxism. Bruxism, or teeth grinding. Night guards are also available through our clinic. Guards of this type tend to be of a higher quality and superior fit, as they are made in a special laboratory from an impression of your mouth carefully taken by a dental professional. This is generally a more expensive device than one purchased over-the-counter, but can be ...more comfortable to wear. Regardless of where a night guard is purchased, its main function is to prevent the surfaces of your teeth from grinding together, causing you to chip and crack your teeth and strain your jaw muscles. When indicated, missing teeth should usually be replaced to help regain your ability to chew, prevent other teeth from shifting, and restore your smile. A dental implant is made by surgically inserting one or more small metal posts beneath the gum into the jawbone. In a few months, when the implants are fused to the surrounding bone, the artificial tooth or teeth are then attached and the missing tooth or teeth are restored. A crown is a cover that fits over a tooth that has been damaged by decay, broken, badly stained or mis-shaped. It is prepared by your dentist, and usually requires more than one visit to complete. A crown can be made of acrylic, metal, porcelain, or porcelain bonded to metal. All-porcelain crowns look more like your natural teeth, and therefore are usually used for front teeth, while porcelain bonded to metal is stronger and better for crowns in the back of the mouth.
