The Africa Centre is a non-profit that serves African descent communities in Alberta. The Africa Diaspora group of organizations identified that Albertans of African descent were disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, created its Food Bank. As a group of organizations, they identified the need for culturally relevant food items as the African descent community’s needs were not being represented. Specifically targeting the African descent community but open to all Albertans, the Food Bank provides culturally relevant food hampers to ensure that no person goes hungry.
