We can’t say enough good about the new home inspector in Northern BC. He has been a contractor and builder for a long time. Experience is 1000 times more valuable than studying a school book. But he has done both.

I have a bone to pick. I’ve sat on this one for a while as well, but unfortunately can’t stay quiet about it anymore. I am starting to see the negative effects of these products. They are called Froth Paks. They are advertised as closed cell 2lb foam at a lot of hardware stores locally trying to push the product. They are not. It is false advertising. It is not an approved thermal foam for use in Canada under the building code guidelines. They do not meet the strict Canadian ...requirements for spray foam in Canada, and in cold climates like ours they are inferior at best. The other issue is inexperienced people installing the product, thinking they are saving a buck. I guarantee you that it is cheaper to hire a certified spray foam contractor then it is to purchase the frost packs and install them to proper depth. The other issue is that the Froth Pak foam still needs to be covered with a vapor barrier, as they are not a true closed cell foam. We recently had to spray a job that had a Froth Pak used on it, and almost every rim board and joist end had been rotted out. The house was only seven years old as well. This is the reality that new homeowners face when using this inferior product. I’m not posting this to gain more business for myself. I am posting this to warn homeowners about the dangers of this product. Rotting structures can cause huge issues with structure, and can leave you stuck with a massive repair bill. Please do your homework when researching these products, and give your local spray foam contractor a call if you need spray foam done! there are multiple reputable spray foam contractors located in the Peace Region. I’d be happy to recommend any one of them. People deserve a better product!
