The importance of connection! I arrived home after my first day back at my day job after the summer to find both my boys plugged in to their devices after the first day of school (Grades 8 and 10). I started asking about their days. I heard "meh", "ok","fine". Ugh! I could feel my stress increasing. I made a split second decision to leave our thawing spaghetti sauce for tomorrow and suggested we go out to celebrate the first day of school. They were keen so after time to fin...ish their games, we decided on Japanese food. It was the turning point and while food was being cooked at our table, out came all the talk of new teachers, meeting old friends, helping new kids with locks, plans of dissecting frogs, etc. I didn't even have to ask much. A new environment and no supper making duties was enough to kick start the conversation. We also realized that we did the exact same thing last year after the first day of school...
