The founders of the WE Charities testified before Parliament in Canada this week. The details aren't important but the quality of the video during their call was disastrous. You can see a few seconds of it in this video here. Just a few minutes setting the proper white balance, exposure, and postitioning the camera correctly would have made all the difference. As it is, they were roundly critized for smirking and having odd facial expressions during their testimony. This can ...be attributed to the poor video quality. It is so washed-out you can only see their eyebrows, eyes, and mouth moving. There is no other detail in their face. It is reminiscent of the way a mime uses white makeup to emphasize their facial expressions. It is important to seek out help or spend some time setting up the audio and video for your calls. Video conferencing, interviews, and testimony are becoming the norm and it has to be done right.
This cheap mic is probably the best way to be heard clearly on your Zoom meetings, video calls, video interviews. It is under $30. The link is in the comments.
This video has some great advice on lighting your video calls, video meetings, interviews. Don't just rely on the lighting in the room. Some simple lighting adjustments can do a lot and make you look your best.
If everyone shows up to a meeting in a suit or business attire and you show up in shorts and tennis shoes you are not going to appear very professional. The same holds true for virtual meetings. If you show up blurry and cannot be heard, you will not appear very professional. This is a great video about what goes into looking good on live streams. From the Stalman Podcast.
