Drop offs and pick-ups will be completed by using our pick up and drop off rack or no contact "curbside" service. ... Drop off: - Put your items in a bag, with your contact information inside. - We will bring your items in and disinfect them upon receipt. - We will review your items and call / email with any questions. - We will complete your repairs and then call / email / DM to schedule pick up. Pick-up: - We will call and advise when your items are ready for pick up. - Let us know when you are heading by to pick up via email / call or DM. - We will place your items on the rack for pick up, or have them ready for contactless curbside pick up (we will place your items in your vehicle). Hey all! Well, here we are, again. Locked down, watching our supply line get hammered yet again. Longer wait times, supply shortages and importing of anything at the moment are tiresome and fraught with issues. ... All. Beyond. Our. Control. As a society, our patience has been tested, we are watching with bated breath as we hope for some good news. THIS ISN'T THE TIME TO GIVE UP. Some of us are lucky enough to still be working, but at times it's not a comfort. Luckily, we are a "family shop" in EVERY aspect. Our little apprentices "Chaos & Mayhem" are in the shop/playroom/activity room regularly. So we keep everything even keel for them as well as ourselves, working through the continued uncertainty in hopes for some semblance of normal. Today, we worked on holdfasts for new boots and shoes. We are still short on some materials to move ahead on some jobs, but these holdfasts being completed keeps up busy and prepared for when materials arrive. Sometimes you get jobs from a friend, and the only reason you don't light the boots on fire, is because your friend loves them. This was a challenge, keep some part of this boot to ensure it is still a "repair" job, but make damn sure you don't have any weak points that will fail once you start adding new soles because Your Friend Destroys Boots So, these boots received new:... Insoles Footbeds Liner Midsoles Welting Steel Outsoles (tread) Heel blocks Heels (rubber heels) And also: A total leather conditioning to put moisture back into the poor, dry leather, and to try to clean some of the gunk. Epoxy toe guards to cover the exposed steel toe. I love what I do and I highly respect my friend Matt, he has done a great deal for myself and my family, so this is the least I can do for him. Would I do this for everyone? - Well, in the immortal words of Peter Venkman "No job is too big, no fee is too big..." It's really a matter of what the boots, shoes, or other items mean to my client, what they are willing to spend, and what the reasonable expectations are. **COVID-19 closure update** As a repair shop that repairs medical devices, we are essential under the Province of Ontario's lockdown guidelines and will be "open" for drop offs and pick ups via curbside / porch drop off starting tomorrow 05/01/2021. You MUST wear mask, and adhere to our protocols here at the shop. ... 1. Wear a mask, period. Even if dropping off onto the rack on the porch. 2. Please message and advise of your drop off PRIOR to arriving, if possible. You can also fill out a repair form on our website to register your drop off (like our mail in clients do). 3. Do not arrive to pick up unless you have been called by us and have been advised that your items are ready. 4. Do not preach the "ineffectiveness" of masks, social distancing, or any other drivel along these lines. Empathy, respect and civility are paramount here, failure to show these traits, even for a moment, will result in you being told to leave. Online (local) shopping today for our home, pretty slick, but the social element to even the most basic of tasks is greatly missed. A strange time that we are living in, we miss your faces! We have read posts over the past few days talking about lines, wait times, hit and miss masking, fights, and just general asshole behaviour. Remember folks, regardless of your views on this, we are all in this together and some have it much much harder than others. ... Be kind, show some empathy, wear a mask, be respectful, keep your distance, wash your hands, and limit your travel to only essentials. FYI - We received yet another notification this morning that we will not be seeing our stock orders until after the holidays, this is our reality for a while. We will still be working on what we have here, and will still be accepting drop offs, and orders (with a stringent disinfection protocol in place), but we will be suspending all fittings, measurements, in person appointments etc. until we get a handle on this in our district. Well, to say this year has been fun would be a lie. But here we are, revamping our shop on the fly, bringing in new equipment (again - should be the last time, maybe), designing, bringing in new lasts to make some new designs, getting back to the shoe & boot making very slowly as supply lines start to re-establish themselves (however temporary that might be), and dealing with day to day operations and clients. And none of this would be possible without Dana, my grounding vo...ice and exceptionally talented partner. She has so many new designs coming, and is producing some pretty awesome moccasins, masks and leather goods to order. (she is also much more photogenic than I) We are very proud of where we are and what we have accomplished, but we are not done yet. Life is pretty hectic right now, but our shop is our happy place. Although COVID has caused some serious supply line issues, delays, and uncertainty, we were still able to, and very happy to get these out to our client today. Well, it's been a bit, how are you all doing? Here at the shop it has been pretty hoppin'. We are still adjusting to not having anyone in the shop, but we are open and accepting items for repair, leather goods orders, boot & shoe orders and accommodating as necessary for measurements when required, fully sanitized, masked, and as safe as possible. This has been quite the week. New shoes & boots being made, wallets, leather garment repair, zipper tooth (yea, you read that rig...ht....) replacement, and a ton of resoling. Christmas orders have started to come in as well. Next week we get our first flood of hockey equipment, and will be replacing palms, straps and eyelets, I'm sure. But in the interim, Dana, the girls and I would like to extend our thanks for your continued support. We can't get over the support for the local business community during this stressful time. You all are amazing and we cannot thank you enough for not only supporting us, but our many business owner friends throughout our community. So you think you can sew? - Here at the shop we have over a dozen unique sewing machines. Some for thin material, pig skin liners, material, etc, some for thick leathers, canvas, and rubber up to an inch and a half thick. Here are a select few that we worked with today. Some of our machines have walking feet to keep the material(s) in place, some are needle feed, some have single needles, while others have two and even three. ... Some of our machines have arms, some have beds, some stand over six feet tall and weigh over 1000lbs!, some run clutch motors, some servo, some are belt driven and others are treadle. Imagine our day when we use all of our machines on various jobs; switching back and forth between them, threading them (they all use different threads, and thread differently), repairing them (yes Dana and I repair the machines too... all in house), oiling them and even restoring them when we first find our rare machines in dusty barns, abandoned factories, or sitting at our friend's place in Guelph! It makes for a shop like no other, where we pride ourselves on the equipment, experience, the repairs and custom goods we produce. We are happy to be back in the shop full time around our brood of machinery, We encourage you all to get that dusty machine out of the closet and sew! You will be glad you did. This week has been hectic to say the least. Over the past six weeks, Dana and I (with help from awesome folks like Zak, Al, Joe and many others) have relocated my parents to town, a good friend has moved here as well. We also had numerous supply chain delays, suppliers going bankrupt, equipment arriving unexpectedly early, orders (which is awesome), website crashing, and a plethora of other things, on top of working very shortened weeks out of necessity in order to deal wit...h other matters. The good news (knock wood), is that although we are still short staffed, Dana and I are back in the shop five to six days a week. Today, a complicated Mephesto rebuild for a friend, that I totally gapped and was reminded of (sorry Deb ), and a pair of #custom line dancing boots! As always, we appreciate your continued support. We like to bring you up to speed with how we are doing here, because as a small business we encounter many challenges throughout the year that corporations don't, and our community (you) have been awesome with us. With this comes some "recovery time" as we navigate these challenges and at the same time, the current pandemic, and economic challenges that we all are facing.
