Saugeen Times editorial states "In talking with many business owners, there is a common thread We can’t find people to work. According to owners, there are fewer young people coming forward to work part-time. Youth, particularly high-school age, don’t even seem to be interested in working. Local and area business owners - Could it have something to do with enrollment at local high schools. Eg. SDSS is down from from capacity of 933 to 530 students???? - That's dow...n 343 high school students according to Bluewater District School Board. A shortage of 200- 300+ students might be a reason no youth are applying for jobs in Saugeen Shores. Add in that in year 2000 enrollment in Bluewater School Board was down 21% according to School Board stats. Kids do want to work..... There are just not enough youth to fill jobs. If you do your homework you'll see why youth aren't applying. But wait as we have local elementary school filling up past capacity - Norhport at 110 % and Saugeen Central at 104% capacity. Just my two cents worth.......... The majority of youth are not lazy. Birth rates impact labour force and availability of student employees. Don't blame our young people for shortage of staff. Add in lack of affordable housing for those working minimum wage and you have an even bigger contribute to lack of staff available to hire in our community. Another reason why affordable housing and working with local businesses and economic development organizations to attract workers to our area is on my campaign platform as Councillor for Port Elgin Ward. https://saugeentimes.com/prosperity-brings-its-own-challen/ See more

I SO AGREE!!! Jeff Preston says it so well - Thank you Jeff for being an advocate and spokesperson for those that continue to struggle for accessibility. To paraphrase Jeff's words ....Instead of operating from a politics of me, I urge the Saugeen Shores electorate in October to entertain the idea that genuine community sometimes means supporting things designed for others, regardless of whether or not you’ve rolled a kilometre on their wheels ...... Earned their low incom...es - Earnestly sought affordable housing - Or struggled to put food on the table in a community with a high cost of living...... Consider voting for the future of everyone in your community! My campaign platform includes accessibility for all ages - An Age-friendly community and affordability and quality of life for everyone who lives sin Saugeen Shores. https://lfpress.com//preston-me-attitude-toward-government See more
