Another tax season has come and gone for personal tax clients. We will still accept personal tax clients but we will not be able to file your return by the Friday deadline due to current work loads but we can file them in May if you still need them done. We get quite a few clients sending us documents for tax season by taking pictures of those documents. Sometimes these are harder to read. Lo and behold there is a built in scanner on your iPhone and its the notes app. Many people do not realize this. If you use the notes app to create a pdf it gets rid of the background that the picture was taken on. No downloading a PDF app. Just open the notes app click new note, click the camera and scan documents is a choice. If you have an older iPhone you may have to search how to do it. I don’t believe androids have the same capability. This has been your Friday tip. If you have any other useful tips feel free to comment.

For any self employed individuals who were told they may have to repay this benefit this is good news. As long as you had over $5,000 of gross business income and met all other qualifications you will not have to pay this back and if you already did you may receive that money back. Efile opens for the Income tax season on Feb 22, 2021. If you are a returning client please email [email protected] to get set up on our online portal again for this year. We will not be having in person meetings due to the ongoing pandemic but will hold telephone or Microsoft teams meetings as required. You can still drop your information off at our office if you would like as well. If you are a new client you can also email [email protected] to get set up for the upcoming tax season. There are some changes this year so let us know if you have any questions.

Do you know what boxes 57 to 60 on your T4 mean? Did you receive the CERB and not sure how to report that income on your 2020 Income tax return? Did you know that if you worked from home in 2020 you can possibly claim a credit on your 2020 income tax return? Did you get a letter from CRA saying you may have to possibly pay back the money you received from CERB? Did you do renovations to your home and need to take advantage of the home renovation tax credit? ... If you don’t that is fine because we know the answers to all of these questions. Contact our office and we can help you with your 2020 and past years income tax returns. We are always here for you plus we will look after any inquiries that Revenue Canada may have for you throughout the year.

Well here we are almost to the end of January which means we will be in full blown tax mode very soon. We are busy preparing T slips for our various clients which are somewhat different this year. There are some changes for the benefits that the government implemented last year due to the covid 19 outbreak. If you have a business and feel overwhelmed with the changes get ahold of Rob at our office he has been dealing with all of the changes and he can definitely assist you w...ith your questions and can also file them for you as well.
