What a way to mark the 5th anniversary of the Phoenix pay system disaster The government still has time to do the right thing. General damages should not be taxed, so we’re calling on key ministers to immediately intervene to fix this before payments are issued. Chris Aylward, National President, PSAC - AFPC Send a letter to Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and Minister Anita Anand that Phoenix damages shouldn’t be taxed.

Throughout Revera’s report, which was drafted by experts chosen by the for-profit corporation, recommendations are made on improving operational and administrative practices to address identified areas of concern. And more often than not, Revera’s response is that the recommendation has been already implemented or is in progress. If this is the case, how does Revera explain the 53 outbreaks, 1,086 resident infections, 619 staff infections, and 222 deaths of residents in Revera long-term care facilities since September 2020? The report offers no explanation for this latest alarming trend.

"The pursuit of tax cuts and austerity by the Manitoba government has come at the expense of the day-to-day workers who keep our economy and society running. This is happening at a time when all Manitobans can see how crucial to our collective wellbeing ordinary workers really are. Down this path lies labour unrest. Wouldn’t it be better if our elected government were to support the people whose work we all depend upon?" ... Well said. Having Revera sold to another for-profit company, would do absolutely nothing to improve the care of seniors in Revera facilities. Chris Aylward, President PSAC - AFPC Revera - and all private, for-profit LTC homes - must be brought back into public ownership and operation. There is no room for profit in long-term care. Today - International Human Rights Day - is a day to celebrate and recommit to advancing human rights here at home and globally. For the past nine months we have been going through global upheaval and Canada’s marginalized communities have been hardest hit by COVID-19 - people with disabilities, Indigenous, racialized and Black communities, seniors, women, LGBTQ2+ communities, as well as low-income, unemployed and homeless people. Now, as we slowly emerge from the global pandemic, we too must demand a better world and we must organize for the change we want. Learn more
