Throughout Revera’s report, which was drafted by experts chosen by the for-profit corporation, recommendations are made on improving operational and administrative practices to address identified areas of concern. And more often than not, Revera’s response is that the recommendation has been already implemented or is in progress. If this is the case, how does Revera explain the 53 outbreaks, 1,086 resident infections, 619 staff infections, and 222 deaths of residents in Revera long-term care facilities since September 2020? The report offers no explanation for this latest alarming trend.

Having Revera sold to another for-profit company, would do absolutely nothing to improve the care of seniors in Revera facilities. Good news for a Friday afternoon! Today PSAC & Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) signed the new collective agreement that was ratified by PSAC-UTE members on September 29. The contract covers around 27,500 federal public service workers. More details

Today - International Human Rights Day - is a day to celebrate and recommit to advancing human rights here at home and globally. For the past nine months we have been going through global upheaval and Canada’s marginalized communities have been hardest hit by COVID-19 - people with disabilities, Indigenous, racialized and Black communities, seniors, women, LGBTQ2+ communities, as well as low-income, unemployed and homeless people. Now, as we slowly emerge from the global pandemic, we too must demand a better world and we must organize for the change we want. Learn more

The benefit is available for workers who don’t qualify for Employment Insurance and aren’t able to access paid sick leave or receive money from a workplace sickness benefit.
