Raincity Theatre 26.02.2021

Over the past week, we have been taking the time to listen to those voices who need to be heard and to truly begin to understand what's already been said for a very long time. This has caused us to look into ourselves and our company and acknowledge our privilege, and how we have been complicit in an outdated and broken system. Within the Vancouver theatre community, there has been a history of predominately white spaces including ours. Raincity Theatre was created by a gr...oup of friends because we saw a hole in the industry that needed to be filled professional, site-specific, immersive musical theatre. However, as we listen, research, and learn more, we have begun to realize that is not enough. That, as an arts organization, even a small arts organization, it is up to us to create spaces where BIPOC artists not only feel safe and seen, but also where diversity is reflected on and off stage. We are aware that being an ally is so much more than making a statement it is about research, self-reflection, and involves on-going and continuous work. We will continue to hold ourselves accountable, to learn, and to listen.
