The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa is a fascinating place to visit - either in-person, or virtually. Memorial Hall is a quiet space meant for reflection. The only artifact present in the room is one headstone, representing Canada’s ‘unknown soldier’. "A few weeks ago, I requested this special song in memory of Dustin. Adrian played it for us at his funeral and it left a deep impact on many. "Dustin Dagenais was a flight parademic with Ornge who passed away on May 31, 2013, when his helicopter crashed in Moosonee ON shortly after take off,... on the way to pick up a patient in Attawapiskat. All four crew members were killed, and it was a devastating loss for the families and the James Bay communities. "Dustin was a people magnet who brought others together. All who knew him would attest that he was the fire we all danced around. He went above and beyond and gave his life to help those in need. He truly was a real-life hero, who died saving others. He meant so much to so many people. "For me, Dustin was my best friend! In fact, I think he may have been everyone’s best friend. Today is Father’s Day, so My Hero is now even more special. Being a father, for most of us, is the closest we will ever come to being a hero. "Thank you to Adrian for helping keep his memory alive. We miss Dustin tremendously..." -- Randy Dagenais

Traditionally, #AdrianSutherland (of roots-rock band #MidnightShine) made an effort to not be so politically charged in his approach to writing music. That changed when he released his debut solo single #PoliticianMan. The song was born out of long standing issues in Sutherland’s home community of #Attawapiskat and the frustrations of trying to raise a family on the #FirstNation in Northern Ontario. David penned a guest editorial on hip-hop and self expression through the lens of his Native American roots for DJBooth - the authority publication for hip-hop. Check it out...
