The Dempster Highway is the gem of the Yukon in my opinion. I never tire of it.
Windy Bennett Lake, Yukon.
The Dempster always amazes me. I never grow tired of its vistas even after 20 plus years. It’s fun exploring this Yukon gem with my gal. Thanks @rebecca_267 for being a willing participant in our adventures!
First snowfalls in the mountains bring on a sense of melancholy within me. It marks the transition between two seasons in my opinion. Soon the land will be blanketed in white and the sky dark with stars. Then the time for aurora is upon me. Gosh, I live a life of sleep deprivation. I love living where I do! Enjoy your weeks!
Myself, I am still waiting to see the aurora this year. Thing is, I like sleeping too much now. Unless they are out by 10, I tend to go to sleep. But it’ll happen and I’ll be ready when they do! This is taken a year back during an early evening of aurora! Enjoy.
When I first saw this brute from a distance I thought it was a bison. But then I thought, there are no bison in the arctic circle as far as I know. Seriously, he was massive. Look at that head!!!! He was pretty content eating berries and roots and paid little attention to me. So fun!
It’s a great big world out there. The landscape can make one feel pretty small and humble. Here is a shot along the Dempster Highway showing just that. The view really is worth the effort. Once back to the van, I feel a real sense of connectedness with the land and people around me. Like @rebecca_267 in this photo, I’m so lucky to have her with me out here. She puts up with my slowness (hip replacement) quite admirably. Thank you!
I’ve travelled the Dempster Highway countless times over my 20+ years in the Yukon and have never been the least bit bored on any of the trips. I have my favorite spots to photograph and this small pond is one of them. Waiting for the right conditions is easy to do up here since everywhere you look there is something to see and photograph. This evening was particularly beautiful with an amazing sunset reflected in the pond. I hope you enjoy my image as much as I liked taking and processing it. Prints are always available by sending me a direct message.
Hi everyone. Sorry for my absence but I’ve been off grid up the Dempster Highway gathering new images. I’ve had a blast doing so with the typical Yukon weather blasting me at every turn. This cute fox seemed to be mimicking my expression as we both looked skyward observing the ominous clouds rolling in. It did allow me the moment of time to snap this fleeting moment. So previous. Taken with Nikon D850 and 600mm f/4 lens. Enjoy.
Gotta keep an eye out for sudden encounters. Cute bear here, munching away in berries and roots. Wasn’t bothered by us in the least. Great encounter!
The moment you leap is sometimes the scariest part. You never know where you’ll land...that is what makes it worth doing!
