Rocmaura Foundation is pleased to welcome two new members to our board. Denise Long and Billy Tyler are joining us as we help to make a difference in the quality of life of our residents. You have probably spotted Denise supporting many important causes in our community and you may have run into Billy at Fundy Funeral Home where he is the funeral director.

Staff are busy getting 1000 masks ready. We go through 200 a day. They are put in envelopes so that there is no contamination, to keep everyone safe.

I am feeling blessed spending time with this sweet lady before Christmas . Ed, Andrew and I had lots of laughs with her! Andrew was her personal DJ for any tunes Nanny wanted to hear.

Marie Nagel, Tucker and Rowan Godin, and Elka Ogden delivered a stack of 150 handwritten Christmas cards for every resident today! The 5,7,and 10 year olds said it didn’t take long with their Grandmother’s help. Why did they choose Rocmaura? They saw our posts on facebook! Krista and Noha Dickson also sent along 10 more cards! Wow! Our residents are going to be so happy to get your mail! We can’t wait til they open them! Thank you kids!

November 19,2020 COVID-19 Update As we watch the rest of our country struggle with increasing cases, we are now also seeing this in our communities but on a smaller scale so far. COVID fatigue is real; people are not following public health directives and now we are seeing more cases. Today public health implored us to keep our contacts with others at a bare minimum, follow all rules, and not plan for Christmas parties or gatherings. Our province has done well to protect ...itself; it is time we take on the second wave with the same careful thought as we did the first. The last thing any of us want is to have anyone become ill or die as a result of not following the rules. This is a time to protect one another. Region 1 (Moncton and surrounding areas) is experiencing a high volume of case and is considered a HOT SPOT. If you have been to Region 1 or have had contact with anyone from that area, do not come to Rocmaura. If you are a staff member and have traveled to this area or had contact with anyone from this area, please get in touch with your manager right away to assess your contacts. I will send more information as it becomes known. Please keep monitoring your emails. It will take all of us working together to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your support and understanding. Exciting time for residents on Terrace Court as the Foundation refurbishes more rooms. We are getting rid of the old grey plywood painted cabinets and installing 5 new wardrobe units thanks to a $17,500 donation by Don Mitchener. If you would like to help renovate a room, please contact 643-7090. With a $3500 donation you can have a plaque engraved with your company name or in honour of someone special.

Construction is underway on Terrace Court! Rocmaura Foundation is installing 5 new wardrobe units!

Harry is getting some paintings ready to hang as part of our Art Gallery Project. The Foundation has been very fortunate to have received generous donations of many well known local artists including Gerard Collins, Joanne Fitzpatrick, Harold Marks, Catherine McAvity, and Ed Coleman so far. Many thanks to Octavio Ribeiro for his contribution as well. We can’t wait to see how these works brighten our home and our Residents’ hearts.

Congratulations to Sharron Arsenault who recently celebrated her 48th year of working at Rocmaura Nursing Home. She was hired November 13,1972. Rocmaura opened December 16, 1972. Now that is dedication! We are grateful to have such wonderful employees.

December 14, 2020 Update Scheduled visits for Christmas available: o December 21-23 until 5pm o December 24th until 3pm... o December 28-30th until 5pm o December 31st until 4pm. Latifa and Paige, our students from this summer, will be on hand to ensure as many scheduled visits as possible can occur. DSP visiting will continue as usual, 11 am 7 pm. New families, other friends and family, who are not Designated Support Persons, (DSP), you will need to schedule visits. There will be no scheduled visits on December 25-27th inclusive. We are not able to offer Christmas Eve mass for you with your loved one due to social distancing and capacity limits. When you are in to visit you could talk about the Christmas story or recall how you would celebrate mass/services in years past. This may serve to bring back some fond memories and warm feelings. The Parks Street entrance will be open during the day all this week and this weekend so that you may drop off Christmas presents. Please be sure to label them with the labels provided. Deadline of December 21st , to ensure they are quarantined for the necessary time before being delivered to the courts on December 24th. We are not able to accept food of any sort for residents or staff. Thank you all once again for all your lovely kindnesses and support. COVID-19 testing for nursing home and adult residential facility workers In order to better protect staff and residents, asymptomatic workers in nursing homes and adult residential facilities are able to request a COVID-19 test online once every two weeks. We encourage everyone to arrange for testing every two weeks. More than 50 handwritten cards were delivered to Rocmaura today. They were done by ten year old Seth Gillespie who is in grade 5. He met our Executive Director camping and told his mom Amy we have to do something for them! Great job! The residents will so enjoy these!
