Have you heard of Mel Robbins' 5 second rule? When you feel hesitant before doing something you know you should do, you have a 5 second window to act on it. The counting will help you focus you on your goal, and distract you from the worries, thoughts, and excuses in your mind. Just start counting backwards to yourself: 5-4-3-2-1. Five seconds is all it takes to make it happen!

Insulin, a hormone that the pancreas makes in response to consuming carbohydrates, allows our cells to use sugar for energy production. But in North America, we have an epidemic called Insulin Resistance where the cells don't respond normally to insulin. IR is a precursor to Type 2 Diabetes so it's crucial to address it! Some common signs and symptoms include: 1. Fatigue, especially after eating carbohydrates 3. Black wiry chin hair growth in women, or hair around the belly... button 2. Midsection belly fat 4. Did you know happiness and learning are closely linked, because positive experiences activate the learning process? "As we get older, it is more important to find things to do that light up our lives...Our minds are central to this effort, and thrive when we are finding new things for them to do. Whether it's acquiring a new skill or language (very high on the list of mental acuity benefits), joining a new group and meeting new people, traveling to a new destination, or finding ways to continue using existing skills, successful aging and longevity are built upon patterns of lifelong learning. Jacquelyn James, director of research at the Sloan Center on Aging & Work

The right supplements for the right person can make a big difference in how someone feels. Some of the most common supplement categories are: Intestinal support and repair (ex. probiotics, glutamine, licorice...) Sleep onset and maintenance (ex. melatonin, GABA, magnesium...) Nervous system and stress hormone balance (ex. magnesium, L-theanine, Relora...) ... Sex hormone balance (ex. vitamin D, Vitex, Saw Palmetto...) Anti Inflammatories (ex. omega 3, curcumin, rosmarinic acid...) Your first step should be discussing your options with your healthcare provider, since a supplement’s effectiveness and safety may depend on your individual situation and health.

Now is a good time to start thinking about back-to-school routines to help make the transition a little more manageable. Get back to EARLIER bedtimes and stick to them - "I really wish my well-rested child wasn't so happy and agreeable" SAID NO PARENT EVER. Meal planning is annoying but it's a life saver isn't it? We pick 7 suppers and rotate them for a while. Also pick 5 school lunches and rotate. Plan ahead the night before I have the kids lay out their clothes and... pack their backpacks. I think about breakfast and vitamins (this is especially useful for picky eaters). We still use a BIG handwritten calendar on the wall at kid's eye level so each person can see what they have going on in the next 2 weeks. See more
