Rose City Ashtanga Yoga 30.12.2020

Sutra Sunday . . . I. 2 yogas citta-vrtti-nirodhah... =; = ; =, ; =, Yoga is the stilling of the changing states of the mind. . . . Patanjali already on the second phrase from the Yoga Sutras, gives us clearly the definition of yoga, there is no room for misunderstanding. He is absolutely clear...Yoga is the ability to control your mind, everything else is techniques (asana, kriyas, mudras, pranayama, meditation, chanting, etc.) that will help you establish that state. When a person thinks of yoga it is often the physical practice (asana) that comes to mind. And for sure, this is an important and significant part. You can’t go further without asana. Eventually if we stick around long enough we realize that there is more to this than just body moving. We come to understand that a deeper healing is possible. If we only practice asana we heal the body, if we want to heal the mind we need to practice meditation, and to link these two we need breathing practices, or pranayama. We have to enter this procedure successively, this is the reason why we start with asana. Eventually, you begin to explore breathing techniques (pranayama) and maybe a little meditation. You become more and more curious about the quiet inside and how to tap into it. You become more patient and focused. Your mind becomes clearer and there is less chatter. You might experience less emotional turmoil. You feel more connected, well and at ease. You think, hey this yoga...something is happening. #patanjaliyoga #sutrasunday #yogasutras #yogaphilosophy #morethanasana #eightlimblife #yoga #ashtanga #ashtangisofig #yogaislife #yqg #yogaintheyqg #rosecityashtangayoga

Sutra Sunday I.1 atha yoganusasanam Atha=now; yoga=yoga; anushasanam=teachings.... Now, the teachings of yoga (are presented). . . . Just one word can symbolize an entire pattern of thought. With the very first sutra, Patanjali reminds us to be present, to wake up to reality. Take a moment to consider the of meaning in this first word, atha. Translated, it means simply, now. There is power in the moment of now. The past is done; the future is yet to be realized. Only in this moment can you act, and every moment presents another opportunity to begin. Atha (like Om) is the sound of creation, and merely pronouncing atha invokes a blessing. Saying "atha yoganushasanam" is like hitting a reset button. Chanting it at the beginning of your practice clears the space and sets the stage. The rest is up to you. #yogasutrasofpatanjali #begin #morethanasana #eightlimblife #yoga #yogisofig #contemplation #bewilling #surrender #faith #rosecityashtangayoga

Hey hi Since this is a new beginning, I thought I should introduce myself! I'm Melodie, and I am a born and raised Windsorite. I love this city, AND I also love Ashtanga Yoga.... I started doing yoga in 2006, and shortly after decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I took my first teacher training in 2008 and have been teaching ever since. In 2016, I had the opportunity to practice traditional Ashtanga yoga taught by the person who would become my teacher. To say that this practice had an incredible impact on me is an understatement, but that's a tale for another time. I have been focused on this practice exclusively since it found me and it seems only natural that this is the next phase of practice...turning it outward and offering it to my community. It is my intention to build in Windsor, for Windsor because I believe in the power of this practice and what it can do for people. I believe in this rad little city, and it's people...I think we'll do great things together. If you're looking for something in your practice, you just might find it here. I'm looking forward to connecting in person when we can, but for now I am planning some simple offerings for all of us at home. Thanks for reading and see you on the mat! #yqg #yogaintheyqg #yqgyoga #whatsupwindsor #ashtanga #ashtangalove #8limblife #lifepractice #yogaislife #letsdothis #yogaonline #homepractice #selfpractice
