Now that spring is in the air, the property market is shifting its gears and soon will be ready to burn some tread. All across Ontario, both home owners and realtors are getting prepared to put their best foot forward. Staging has become a common and much sought out service, of course the home owner wants to present the best features and advantages their home has to offer and most of the time, they are in need of proffesional guidance. Depending on what condition the propert...y is to begin with, there are several phases to the staging process. Some degree of decluttering is necessary and a fresh coat of paint. Sometimes that might be enough, however more than often I am faced with homes that first need a little updating, before we can stage it. This older Scarborough home was one such contender, although there was room for more improvement, there is always the dreaded BUDGET. But it takes a little imagination, a lot of hard work and some savvy moves to accomplish the clients requirements.

The Interior Design world has transformed drastically, especially when we think about the kitchen, once upon a time, this extremely significant space was tucked away in some corner of the house, barely visible; it felt stuffy and congested, had an impractical lay out and was probably the messiest place on the main floor. Over the past decade, most of us have seen the change in trend, now the a kitchen is the hub, the most expensive part of the house, the Piece De Resistance,...Continue reading

When a client who's house I've been working on, calls for specialty decor, well, I think I have a tendency to go over board! Romi and Kavita wanted to host a Halloween party and they knew just who to call. I don't celebrate Halloween the way some people do, but, I can't resist designing and decorating for any occasion. I simply went back to the house to do a quick walk through and decide where I am going to set up my creation. Naturally, I picked the most spookiest unfinished... part of the house and Romi was thinking the same thing, except for some drywall, the sub floors, open ceiling, the old fireplace, it was the perfect canvas. Whats the point if I cant freak a few people out. After all the photography was done, thank you Newtown! This place got creepier once I changed all the bulbs to a red colour, added a fog machine, an awesome candy station for the kids and freaky noises for a bizarre and bloody night...muhahahahaha,

Two years ago, Romi called me up and asked me to come by for a consultation. When I arrived at his beautiful house, I did a quick scan and thought to myself 'this is doable' Lovely curb appeal, living, dining, family room, the usual. He introduced me to his beautiful wife Kavita, their two children and both sets of parents. I started to take out my note pad when, to my surprise, Romi says, he would like to show me the new property! I soon realized, this was not the house he w...as talking about. He asked me to follow him and his wife to their future dream house. When I first laid eyes on what seemed like a run down haunted house from a hollywood horror flick. I thought 'oh no' but once I was inside and had a chance to walk through the whole property, I could see the infinite potential it had. Romi took a chance, threw caution to the wind and decided to up and leave his perfectly manicured cookie cutter home to live his dream. This scenic property boasts enough land to build two other houses with room to spare. Gorgeous tall trees, tons of fresh air, beautiful view, a calf deep river and natural slopes. During the summer, they can go fishing right in their backyard and in the winter, tubing and sliding down snowy slopes. It has double decks, two patios and huge indoor in ground pool and so much more. Just like Romi, I took a chance with what turned out to be a lot of work but, for me that is the challenge. To go where I have never been before, to check off as many boxes on the list and to see a smiling client. I am happy to share the work I have put in since day one, the planning, sketching, measuring, building process, annoying weather delays, countless designs, countless hours of shopping and the list goes on. Romi and Kavita have a vision, I am humbled that they chose me to bring their dream to life. This vibrant couple is full of ideas, sometimes they know what they want, sometimes they don't. One thing is for sure, I had a chance to help them zero in on their style and design taste. They both enjoy bold, bright and luxury finishes. A house like this will take a few more years to complete. Here are some pictures of the what I have been up to.

Every project I am involved in brings different challenges. Sometimes I am called upon to focus on one room and sometimes I work on the entire house. My first step is to analyze the space I am working with. Is it a big room? Do I need to gut the whole place and start from scratch or am I working with what is already there? My next step is to understand my client. What are they looking for? What do they need from me? What is their personal style? ... My third step is to go over their budget. How much do they want to spend? Does their budget match their requirements? When I was approached for this project, it wasn't the home owner who contacted me, but their daughter. She really felt that the house needed some updating. This impressive house averages out to 3500sq on the main and top floor and an additional 1000sq in a finished open plan basement. With four generations of family constantly in and out of their home, I needed to find a common ground to please everyone. The home owners are a mature couple with generally a traditional style, however the kids are young adults who prefer something more modern. Working on the whole house can take up a year or two, all depends on what the client wants and what our collective projection is for their home. In phase 1 my challenge is to update the paint colours as the whole house was a yellowish beige. And introduce new ideas to the mature couple but also show the younger generation that classical dosent mean outdated. So I worked with the classical furniture which is in great shape and introduced them to colour. Look out for other rooms in this house in the upcoming weeks.
