The Santa Shuffle is much more than a fun run/walk. It is an event where dedicated Canadianslike you, come together to give hope and help to vulnerable individuals in their community. Last year, thousands of Santa Shufflers across the country joined virtually to continue their commitment to helping those in need with The Salvation Army in Canada. 2020 was a year like no other. Through all the challenges and new realities we had to face, your commitment to support vulnerable Canadians remained strong. From all of us on the Santa Shuffle team, we want to thank our participants, volunteers and donors for helping change lives when Canadians needed us most.

On Saturday, December 12th, Santa Shufflers gathered to celebrate the end of the first-ever virtual Santa Shuffle! Thanks to the on-going dedication from participants, thousands of Canadians will receive the support they need this Christmas season and beyond. Read the recap of the exciting event below.

In Ottawa, funds raised from this event support The Salvation Army in Canada Bethany Hope Centre, a resource centre for pregnant youth and young parent families. Through this centre, individuals receive parenting support, nutrition classes, employment and education assistance and much more. Although the Santa Shuffle has changed this year, the commitment from our participants, volunteers and sponsors remain as strong as ever. Funds raised through the event support The Salvation Army’s Community and Family Services in Moncton to help their community breakfast and Christmas hamper programs! Ever wondered where funds from the Santa Shuffle go? In Toronto, proceeds go to support The Salvation Army Gateway Shelter, a 120-bed emergency shelter and drop-in for men. Thanks to our Toronto Santa Shufflers and local sponsors like Fitzrovia Real Estate, Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital and Cover-All, the Gateway is able to help support those experiencing homelessness and provide a safe place for vulnerable Canadians to sleep at night.

I was a teen when my mother lost her battle with cancer. For Stephanie, the Santa Shuffle holds a special place in her heart. When her mom was in the hospital with cancer, The Salvation Army in Canada provided care and support. Learn how she’s giving back through the Santa Shuffle today.

Although this may seem insignificant, it brought joy to my father during a difficult time. To me, The Salvation Army is a quiet hero. As an avid runner, Dennis joined the Santa Shuffle to run in a cheerful event during Christmastime. But that’s not his only reasonto Dennis, the Santa Shuffle brings a glimmer of hope to those in need. Dennis knows all too well how meaningful small gestures can be. When his father was in the hospital, Salvation Army volunteers gave him a ‘goodie’ bag filled with small Christmas trinkets and chocolates. This gesture, although small, brought joy. Thanks to our Santa Shuffle participants, The Salvation Army in Canada to bring hope and happiness to people like Dennis’ father.

We’re SO inspired by our Santa Shuffle teams who show relentless efforts to support their communityteams such as the Lakeview Manor team. Many years ago, 10 individuals from Lakeview Manor, a Salvation Army long-term care facility in New Brunswick, had the desire to give back. That’s when they joined the Santa Shuffle.
