Students at Marion M. Graham Collegiate are making music together even though the pandemic keeps them apart. Under the leadership of teacher Deb Flynn, Grade 9 and 10 band students combined their music and drumming with vocals from Quinn Smith, Clara Knox, and Mira Behl; guitar by Alex Conley; and a rap by Keinan Kendall. The result is a re-worded version of the K-OS song Crabbuckit that shares the challenge of making music in the time of COVID. The video, edited by alum Harrison King, is the school’s entry in the CBC Canadian Music Class Challenge.
When a positive case is identified that is connected to a school, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) officially notifies the school division and gives instruction on informing pertinent individuals, such as the class the individual is connected to and the entire school community. The SHA provides standard information that must be shared with school families. School division staff work with the school principal to inform the impacted teacher(s) and the entire school staff. Classroom-specific information is shared with the impacted class, and a notification letter from the principal is distributed to all families in the school community. Our students and staff members are doing an amazing job following safety protocols in schools. But keeping our schools healthy and safe requires a community effort. This is an important message from our education partners Saskatchewan School Boards Association, Saskatchewan Association of School Business Officials and LEADS. #spslearn
