Blood plasma trials: a message from Dr. Susan Shaw Have you recovered from COVID-19? If so, you can help others currently battling the virus. The high number of... new COVID-19 infections in Saskatchewan means more of our neighbours, family and friends need care in Saskatchewan’s ICUs and hospitals. This also means there are now more people who could help provide a possible treatment for COVID-19. National trials are testing the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 convalescent blood plasma as a possible treatment option for patients with COVID-19. Plasma is the protein-rich liquid in blood that supports the immune system while helping other blood components such as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets circulate through our bodies. When a person is infected with a virus, their body starts making antibodies to fight it. These antibodies could be the key ingredient for a treatment to help others with the same virus when collected from someone who has made a recovery. The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has heard from members of our team and the public that they have received a memo from the SHA about the COVID-19 vaccine... rollout strategy and makes claims of fines for unvaccinated staff. Please note that this memo is fake. The SHA’s vaccine rollout strategy DOES NOT include mandatory vaccination with fines to staff. Any use of the SHA brand or templates in a false natureeven as a jokeis a violation of the Corporate Communications Policy. This is potential fraud and is being taken seriously.
