The 2020 holiday season has certainly looked a little different at Scarboro, but we are so honoured Santa could stop by in his sleigh for our Christmas Drive-Thru! Last weekend, on a beautiful, sunny Sunday, members had the chance to drive through, give a big (but distanced) hello to Santa, enjoy some delicious hot chocolate and candy canes, share their Santa letters, and pick up their special gifts . Today we remember and thank all those who have served and continue to serve. #LestWeForget Like lifetime member Bill Whiteside, who flew as a gunner in a Lancaster with the Royal Canadian Air Force in WWII, where every sortie meant a 50% chance of not returning, and all SGCC members who volunteered for active service in WWI. We remember those who sacrificed and gave their lives in the line of duty. Every son, every daughter, every mother and father. Every single veteran. You... are our heroes. #RemembranceDay

Yesterday we got the very exciting news that our favourite course pup Floki was chosen to be featured in GCSAA's 2021 Dog Days of Golf calendar! We are so proud of our little lady! Stay tuned for more information on how you can vote for Floki to win Dog of the Year!

A tournament to remember! This past weekend marked our 64th Annual J.P. Arnott Team Classic. With a five-way tie for first place, with a low team score of 64, this year saw an incredible playoff on #18 and certainly made Scarboro history! Congratulations to our 2020 winners, Andy Ho and Ryan Lewenza!

Let’s hear it for our amazing garden crew! Over the past several weeks, we have had a number of our members graciously volunteering their time to work in our gardens - some days even in the 30+ heat! Our acorns have sprouted! Here’s a look at the work we’ve been doing with Daniels Faculty’s Forestry at U of T to spread the genetics our healthy, beautiful 200 year old Red Oak, which stands proudly behind the second green

Let’s talk about our honey bees ! While the bee program at SGCC was introduced four years ago, we realized we haven’t posted much about it on our social channels and it’s time to change that! Inspired by Leanne Pepper’s bee program at University of Toronto's Faculty Club, our be program was brought to life by our Assistant Superintendent Lesley Thomas. After much hard work alongside Pieter Basedow, Chief Apiarist of U of T’s Beekeeping Education Enthusiast Society, by June 2...016, our bees were settled into their new homes, and by August, we had our first honey harvest - a whole 50 lbs! We’re proud to say our thriving honey bee program is reflective of the very healthy ecosystem our land is creating within the community . For us, this has been a way to utilize our acres of beautiful green space to benefit the bee population and the community at large. Let’s hear it for sustainable golf! This year we are expanding our hives from 4 to 6! And though they had a bit of a slow start this spring, the hives wintered well and the bees have been very busy the past two weeks - we’re often finding honey bees in our pollinator garden!

Our Eastern Redbud Trees are in bloom These are one of our absolutely favourites on course! Members, make sure you catch a glimpse of these beautiful blooms this weekend. They can be found in the #2 and #17 pollinator gardens.

Pin caddies are in! A gentle upward nudge with your putter and out comes the ball! Helping to bring golf back safely to the Scarboro community.

We have a beautiful young fawn on course! Members, of you happen upon this little fawn (seen in the valley) while on course, please give it space and quiet. It is not in any danger or trouble! This is a natural process and the mother deer will be back But of course, do make a quick and distanced stop to admire the beauty and cuteness!

Opening Weekend was a great success, filled with sunshine and smiling faces. It has been so wonderful to have our members back on course. We missed you dearly! While this season is going to be a little different than most, with the support of our incredible Scarboro community, we know we will make the best of it. Here's to the start of the 2020 golf season!
